SL Attorney General continues to protect genocidaire commander

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 16 May 2018, 22:49 GMT]
A Deputy Solicitor General representing the SL Attorney Department was urging the High Court in Jaffna on Wednesday to suspend the investigation on the writ of habeas corpus, which was seeking a high-ranking commander of the occupying SL Army to produce Tamil youth who were detained 22 years ago in Jaffna during the regime of Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Former SL Commander and present minister, Sarath Fonseka, has been protecting Major General Duminda Keppettiwalana, who commanded the Sinhala soldiers of the military camp at Naavatkuzhi in 1996.

Staggering 10% of lands in Mullaiththeevu militarised

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 09 May 2018, 23:57 GMT]
The ratio of the occupying Sinhala military personnel per Tamil civilians in the district of Mullaiththeevu is at one Sinhala soldier per two civilians as revealed earlier by Tamil politicians in the area. But, the extent of lands transformed into ‘Sinhala Military Zones’ have been systematically underreported, and the real size stands at 10% of the total land-area of the district, a highly placed source at the District Secretariat of Mullaiththeevu told TamilNet this week.

Militarisation of housing contract frustrates storm affected Tamils in Ampaa'rai North

[TamilNet, Monday, 23 April 2018, 18:49 GMT]
Tamil residents have expressed serious concerns over the occupying Sinhala military of genocidal Sri Lanka emerging as the contractor of reconstructing the roofs of a housing scheme with 684 apartments, which come under two village (GS) divisions in Periya-neelaava'nai of Kalmunai administrative division in the Ampaa'rai district, along the border of the Batticaloa district. The residents are in shock after learning that the apartments, initially constructed by the SL Foreign Ministry exploiting international funds in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami catastrophe, are not strong enough to bear roofs of traditional tiles. The SL military contractors are now going to put up lighter roofing sheets, which are prone to wind suction during extreme weather, informed civil sources in the division told TamilNet.

Making decisions rooted in native political space

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 03 April 2018, 23:25 GMT]
The binary choice in Colombo-centric politics will always be between the devil and the deep blue sea as far as Eezham Tamils are concerned, commented Tamil political activists in Jaffna observing the latest happenings in the North as well as in the South. Eezham Tamils should not conceive their central political space succumbing to the electoral politics of the genocidal unitary system, which is promulgated by the Mahawansa-mindset and the international injustice sustained by geopolitical manoeuvrings. The Tamil-speaking people should instead invest their efforts on evolving a native and unified political space centred in the North-East with the diaspora, Tamil Nadu and global solidarity dimensions which extend beyond their territorial boundary, they said.

Colombo strengthens impunity for genocidal Sinhala commander

[TamilNet, Monday, 02 April 2018, 23:13 GMT]
Maj. Gen. Duminda KeppetiwalanaJaffna High Court Judge Manickavasagam Ilancheliyan on Monday gave green signal to proceed with the cases of habeas corpus seeking a senior commander of the SL Military to produce three of twenty-five Tamil youth, whose whereabouts are not known after the SL Army at Naavatkuzhi detained them 22 years ago in 1996. The SL Police instructed by the Judge to investigate the case stated that it was impossible for them to investigate the case as more than 20 years have elapsed since the disappearance of the victims. The first respondent is Major General Duminda Keppettiwalana, who commanded the Sinhala soldiers of the military camp at Naavatkuzhi in 1996 when he was a captain. He has been systematically protected and promoted by Sarath Fonseka, the former SL Army commander and a partner of the current regime in Colombo.

NPC launches Ammaachchi food court with CBK's participation in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Sunday, 01 April 2018, 23:20 GMT]
Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister Justice C.V.Wigneswaran has launched another food court retaining the original concept and the name ‘Ammaachchi’ as conceived by the NPC ministry of agriculture. The new branch of Ammaachchi food court was declared opened by former SL President Ms Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga (CBK) at Keerimalai on Sunday. In the meantime, the food court launched by the NPC at Thirunelveali three months ago, is still unable to use the name ‘Ammaachchi’ as the SL Ministry of Agriculture has been demanding the traditional food court concept promoted by the Northern Provincial Council to be Sinhalicised as ‘Hela Bojun’.

Occupying Colombo harasses war-affected families in Madu

[TamilNet, Saturday, 20 January 2018, 17:18 GMT]
Around 300 war-affected families from the five districts of North who have been resettled at 2nd Mile Post (Ira'ndaam-kaddai) from Madu Road junction along the road to the Holy Shrine of Madu complain of harassments coming from various departments under the central ministries of occupying Colombo, the Sinhala police, particularly the STF and the military intelligence of genocidal Sri Lanka. The villagers say they are living in an open prison, which is being subjected to repeated interventions by the Sinhala officials of the SL Forest Department, who claim to protect the forest from illegal logging, the Wild Life Department falsely blaming the villagers of hunting deers and peacock, Geological Department claiming to protect the soil from illegal sand scooping and the SL Archaeology Department which is in the forefront of Sinhalicisation deploying heritage genocide against Eezham Tamils.

Mystification of post-war U.S strategic engagement with SL unitary state

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 13 December 2017, 21:14 GMT]
Following the 2015 regime change, U.S strategic interests in the island have advanced to unprecedented heights. Such structural development is obfuscated through the opinions engendered by the Geneva-UNHRC based Human Rights discourse as well as the ‘reconciliation, transitional justice and development’ discourses. The highly distorted discourse that is disseminated from established international systems pivoting the U.S and their allies, paints a picture of U.S axis of powers and U.N as being saviors of a ‘victimized’ Tamil ‘minority’ sans self-determination. Tacitly this discourse attempts to purge the national character of the aspirations and grievances of Eezham Tamils and brackets their political struggle into a ‘minority issue’. It bereaves the Tamils of their democratic will, national existence and sovereignty.

Veteran journalist of Tamil Eelam passes away at 87

[TamilNet, Thursday, 16 November 2017, 16:07 GMT]
0S.M. Gopalaratnam (SMG), the most senior journalist to serve the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle with a prolific journalistic career in the Tamil-language press with more than 50 years of continuous service, passed away at the age of 87 at his residence in Batticaloa on Wednesday. Born in Jaffna and based in Batticaloa, Mr Gopalaratnam joined Virakesari in Colombo as a proof-reader in 1953 and rose to the level of sub-editor in the same year. SMG joined Jaffna-based Eezha Naadu daily in 1961 as one of the founding editorial board members and served the paper for 20 years covering the non-violent struggle of Eezham Tamils. He narrowly escaped from an arson attack by the occupying Sinhala police who burnt down the office and machinery of Eezha Naadu the very night the Jaffna Public Library was put to ashes in 1981.

Jaffna students demand US and UN agenda-setters to declare PTA detainees as political prisoners

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 14 November 2017, 23:44 GMT]
0More than 1,000 Tamil students from across the faculties of Jaffna University as well as the students from the College of Education, Jaffna Technical College and High Tech institute took to the streets in Jaffna on Tuesday demanding the main intervening actors of the International Establishment to recognise the Tamil prisoners detained under the so-called Prevention of Terrorism Act as Political Prisoners. They handed over open and urgent appeals addressed to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the President of UNHRC and to the US Permanent Mission for UN in Geneva, which has been behind the drafting of the ‘consensus’ resolution with the SL State in Geneva Human Rights Council in 2015 and with postponing a final evaluation by two more years in 2017. The student leaders handed over the appeals through the UN Residential Office in Jaffna and the American Corner in the city.

CBK's so-called reconciliation faces acid test from North

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 31 October 2017, 16:21 GMT]
“There are 150000 soldiers in the Northern Province. It is amusing that the Attorney General wants to protect three State Witnesses by transferring the case from Vavuniya to Anuradhapura,” said Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister and former Supreme Court Judge C.V. Wigneswaran in a letter addressed to former SL President Chandrika Kumaratunga Bandaranaike (CBK), who is the Chairperson of Colombo's so-called ‘Office for National Unity and Reconciliation’ urging the latter to intervene and transfer the cases of fasting Tamil political prisoners back to Vavuniyaa or to Jaffna High Court. “Your intervention, Madam Chandrika, at this point of time would ensure understanding and good will among our people if you choose to be empathetic,” Justice Wigneswaran wrote in his letter to CBK.

Colombo seizes more lands for Sinhala colonisation in Trincomalee through engineering Tamil-Muslim divide in East

[TamilNet, Sunday, 22 October 2017, 21:55 GMT]
The authorities of occupying Colombo are seizing the lands of uprooted Tamils in Uppaa'ru, a GS area in Ki'n'niyaa division located between the East port city of Trincomalee and Moothoor division. There were at least 60 Tamil families and 8 Tamil-speaking Muslim families living in Uppaa'ru village before their displacement during the times of war. The occupying Sri Lanka Army was behind driving the people out from their villages in the late 1990s during the regime of Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge. The SL military was sustaining around 10 Sinhala colonisers in a nearby locality known as Gengasasara-thoaddam. Now, setting encroaching Muslims against uprooted Tamils, the SL authorities are trying to ‘legally’ seize the lands that belonged to Tamils.

Paramilitary operative employed at Cooray's secretariat in Jaffna harasses public servants

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 17 October 2017, 18:46 GMT]

The SL operative has handed over details of Tamil public servants, who took part in the black flag protest and demanded the SL Presidential Security Division (PSD) to punish them through SL Presidential Secretariat instructions to relevant ministries. The harassment has already begun with instruction of transfers being sent to North, informed sources in Colombo said. A Ministerial Security Division (MSD) officer in charge of SL Governor's security is also involved in the latest operation.

SL constitutional discourse seen coupled with ‘Vision 2025’ policy of genocidal Sri Lanka

[TamilNet, Sunday, 08 October 2017, 23:00 GMT]
The World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) have influenced the Colombo-based unitary system to prepare ‘Vision 2025’, a policy which gives a face-lift to the ‘development paradigm’ of genocidal Sri Lanka. The drafters of SL Constitution, engineering ‘reforms’ in the unitary system, are also the agents serving the external masters. The new constitution is going to be the bed-rock for many more so-called reforms and Acts to be enacted in future to permanently lock the island as a single-unit into the bandwagonism of the West. New Delhi has already been locked in the grid as a ‘Strategic Partner’. The interim report on the constitutional discourse should be seen coupled with ‘Vision 2025’, launched in September jointly by SL President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

[TamilNet, Monday, 11 September 2017, 12:10 GMT]
Rauff Hakeem, the SL cabinet minister of ‘Urban Development, Water Supply and Drainage’ is trying to illegally allocate 35 acres of public lands to put up a Muslim colony being schemed by M.L.A.M. The controversial move is taking place at Kalladi, 7 km southeast of Batticaloa city. Structural genocide targets Kuchchave'li through long-term land lease

[TamilNet, Saturday, 05 August 2017, 23:47 GMT]
Sinhala SL Government Agent of Trincomalee N.A.A.Pushpakumara is leasing lands to Sinhala businessmen from South in Kuchchave'li administrative division. The Tamil Divisional Secretary of the division, P.Thaneswaran, is being directed by the ruling politicians of occupying Colombo to alienate public lands through long-term leasing (99 years) to Sinhala colonisers, Tamil civil sources in Trincomalee said. Although the Eastern Provincial Council has a say on the issue of term-lease, it has been subjected to heavy influence from Colombo. Knowning that Kachcheari has lost original copies of lands from Nilaave'li to Kumpu'rup-piddi, there has been a systematic move of utilising so-called temporary land permits with the motive of transferring the lands later to the Sinhala owners. The long-term lease in practice means that the lands become the property of the owners in the long run.
