Wigneswaran's secretary accuses SL Presidential Secretariat of dodging land release in North

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 20 June 2018, 11:52 GMT]
The Secretary of the NPC Chief Minister's Ministry Ms Vijeyaluckshmi Ketheeswaran has publicly criticised SL President's Secretariat in Colombo for evading the process of stock-taking the extent of militarised lands in Mullaiththeevu and coming with a proposal for phased release of private lands back to the people. Mullaiththeevu is one of the heavily militarised districts of the Northern Province. Two months have elapsed since she attended a meeting convened in Colombo at the SL Presidential Secretariat on 11th April, Ms Vijayaluckshmi told journalists in Jaffna on Tuesday, a day after the SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, who was visiting Ki'linochchi handed over a document to the Government Agent of Mullaiththeevu of releasing just 52 acres of lands in the district.

Wigneswaran on Monday criticised in strongest terms the latest move by the SL Navy to grab more lands in Ma'ndai-theevu islet, which is located at an entrance from the Palk Bay into the Jaffna lagoon. The Chief Minister said the SL military was releasing pockets of lands with one hand in Valikaamam North to take with the other in other places. Colombo released lands with one hand to take away more with the other

[TamilNet, Saturday, 12 May 2018, 10:07 GMT]
On the one hand, the SL Government is waging propaganda claiming it is releasing pockets of lands in Valikaamam North in Jaffna. But, on the other hand, it is seizing more lands citing a war-time Gazette notification from 07 August 1987, complained A. Gunabalasingham, the president of Valikaamam North Rehabilitation Society. Gunabalasingham's reaction comes on Saturday as the Divisional Secretary of Valikaamam North, S. Sivasri, issued a fresh notice to report those whose lands (in the former High-Security Zone) were coming under the Gazette Notification 465/14, to his office at Thellippazhai.

SL Army continues to rob material remains of houses before releasing Valikaamam lands

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 25 April 2018, 22:13 GMT]
The occupying Army of genocidal Sri Lanka makes it a routine to rob the remaining roof tiles, wooden door and window frames off of their houses every time it releases a pocket of land to the uprooted people of Valikaamam in Jaffna. The stolen material is transported into the military zones fenced away for civilian access. Also this time, a widespread pattern of robbing of structures has been witnessed by the people, who are preparing to resettle near the coast of Mayiliddi. In the meantime, the SL Resettlement Ministry is set to channel 830 millions of rupees of foreign aid to the SL military for further consolidation of military bases in the name of releasing lands. The people who get their lands are also left with the burden of cleaning the jungles. The SL authorities have no concern for the infrastructure of the resettlement.

Colombo schemes new type of subservient CSD colonies in Jaffna diverting foreign aid

[TamilNet, Saturday, 14 April 2018, 23:19 GMT]
The occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka has released 683 acres of coastal pockets of lands in Mayiliddi of Valikaamam North with propaganda it has also opened the coastal road from Point Pedro to Punnaalai for public use. Although the release of the pockets of lands as well as improved access to the coast for uprooted Tamil fishers is seen as a step in the right direction, the SL military is retaining the entire area as a sophisticated military zone, say representatives of uprooted people from Valikaamam North. These are merely pockets of civilian settlements surrounded by SL Army and Navy bases and heavy military presence. The military wants to be in possession of crucial resources and all the fertile lands while aiming to transform the resettling people into its subservient workforce, Tamil rights activists in Jaffna said.

Military can take back whatever it releases, SL commander tells uprooted people in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Saturday, 31 March 2018, 23:34 GMT]
Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake, the commander of the occupying Army of the unitary State of genocidal Sri Lanka, was ‘reminding’ the families of uprooted people that the SL military was in a position to take back whatever being released to the public. Mahesh Senanayake told the recipients of 25 houses, which were built by the SL military at the so-called ‘Village of Reconciliation’ (Nalli'nakka-puram) on Friday that it was the duty of the recipients of the housing scheme to bring up their children without recourse to a bitter war as in the past. Otherwise, the military was in a position to take back what it was giving, he said. When the Tamil interpreter was reluctant to translate the intimidating statement, he repeated the message to the translator, making sure his warning gets translated from Sinhala to Tamil to the target audience.

SL military seizes northernmost point of Tamil country for Sinhalicisaton of tourism

[TamilNet, Monday, 19 February 2018, 16:07 GMT]
0The occupying Sinhala military has transformed the northernmost point of the country of Eezham Tamils into a military-operated tourist attraction for Sinhala tourists from the South. It was also making a mockery of the ‘unity in diversity’ slogan while in practice demonstrating the attitude of transforming everything into ‘Sinhala uniformity’ across the island from the southernmost Dondra point in the Sinhala South to Chakkoadai cape in the Tamil North. The Chief Minister of Northern Provincial Council, Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, is currently having the responsibility of tourism ministry in the democratically elected Northern Provincial Council.

SL military enlists 50 Tamils for slave work in military-run farms in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Friday, 16 February 2018, 19:30 GMT]
0The Jaffna commander of the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka, Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi, on Thursday came with the false propaganda claiming that he was integrating fifty former LTTE members as a workforce in the armed forces of ‘Sri Lanka’. In reality, the SL military was employing the fifty Tamils for slave work in the military-run agriculture farms in the fertile lands, which it had seized from the uprooted people of Valikaamam North, informed sources in Jaffna said.

Sirisena's deceptive election promise exposed in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Thursday, 08 February 2018, 15:21 GMT]
SL President Maithiripala Sirisena, during his latest propaganda trip to Jaffna on Monday, promised to open the coastal road that links Point Pedro in Vadamaraadchi North with Punnaalai in Valikaamam West for public use. In the meantime, ITAK Leader Mavai Senathirajah, who has deployed his son in the civic election race for Valikaamam North, was claiming that ITAK's 'collaborative politics' with Colombo was yielding results. But, within 2 days, the eyewash opening of the road for 'public use' was exposed as a farce as the people were refused access to use the road. The occupying Sinhala military has restricted the 'public use' to only allow SL State-owned bus service with military escort through the road on Tuesday.

Occupying Sinhala military steals contracts, employment from Tamils in North

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 09 January 2018, 21:24 GMT]
Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake, the present commander of the occupying Sinhala Army of genocidal Sri Lanka is trying justify the overwhelming presence of the SL soldiers in the country of Eezham Tamils by claiming that one third of the soldiers were being deployed for construction work in civil sector. But, in reality, the Sinhala military is stealing the contracts from the firms of Tamils and is depriving Tamils of their employment. Ultimately, the SL military has seized the control of the entire market in the Tamil homeland from farming to construction, civil officials in Jaffna said. On the one hand, the unitary SL State is suppressing the Northern Provincial Council without allocating required funds for necessary development and rehabilitation work of the war-affected province, but on the other hand, it is waging a propaganda against the NPC as being inefficient, they further commented.

Appointing PSC to look into uprooted Tamils’ land issue, another deception

[TamilNet, Saturday, 25 November 2017, 15:08 GMT]
As the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) was preparing itself to conduct a detailed survey of uprooted people, who have lost their properties to SL military occupation in the Northern Province, the Rajapaksa loyalists (Joint Opposition) in the SL Parliament have come up with a deceptive proposal to appoint an SL Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to look into the land issue of the uprooted people in the North. The ruling SL regime also seems to back proposal of the PSC. The Sinhala parties are working on the same line when they want to deceive the Tamils and postpone release of lands further, said the representatives of uprooted people from Vasaavi'laan in Jaffna, who think the PSC move would only end up justifying Sinhala military occupation in the name of so-called national security.

[TamilNet, Thursday, 23 November 2017, 23:35 GMT]
The intelligence wing of the occupying Sinhala military in Jaffna has been warning the people, particularly those taking part in the self-mobilised Heroes Day Facilitation Committees not to display Tiger emblem or LTTE uniformed photos of Tamil fighters who have sacrificed their lives. Although the pressure has shifted away from not marking the day during the Rajapaksa regime to not using the symbols associated with the LTTE, the SL military intelligence is more active in logging the details of those being active in the self-mobilised facilitation committees attached to each Thuyilum Illams (Heroes Cemeteries) in Jaffna peninsula and in Vanni. Armed Sinhala policemen have been posted around police posts. Posters that appeared in Vadamaraadchi in connection with marking Heroes Day have been removed by the SL police.

Two small pockets of coastal lands along with a jetty in the ancient fisheries village of Mayiliddi in Valikaamam North was released back to the uprooted people four months ago with big propaganda. But, the occupying SL military did not open the land route for civilian access. Most of the uprooted Mayiliddi fishermen still reside along the coastal stretch of Valveddiththu'rai (VVT), Point-Pedro towards Naakar-koayil of Vadamaraadchi East. The Sinhala military is still not prepared to open the coastal road to enable the uprooted Mayiliddi fishermen to travel forth and back to their coastal jetty and engage in fishing along the rich fish beds off Mayiliddi coast, civil sources in VVT told TamilNet.

34,000 war-uprooted in Jaffna district alone: NPC Report

[TamilNet, Friday, 17 November 2017, 20:43 GMT]
Jaffna district tops the five districts in the Northern Province in the statistics over uprooted people who are awaiting resettlement in their private properties, which still remain occupied by the Sinhala military for the purpose of military zone and cantonments, according to a recent report submitted to NPC CM Justice C.V. Wigneswaran by the Deputy Chief Secretary on Planning at the NPC. There are 34,099 uprooted individuals belonging to 9,758 families in Jaffna district alone, the report says. There are 47,044 individuals who remain uprooted across the five districts. Floods displace uprooted Valikaamam North families in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Monday, 06 November 2017, 23:39 GMT]
75 of 125 displaced families (60%) so far displaced due to floods caused by intermittent monsoon rains in Jaffna are people who have been uprooted from Valikaamam North three decades ago and who have been residing in the so-called welfare camps, District Secretariat civil sources in Jaffna said. While the occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka has refused to consider further release of lands from the ‘military zone’ surrounding the Palaali army cantonment, around 100,000 people have been uprooted from their houses, fertile soil for agriculture and the coast with access to the fish-rich seabed. The most deprived among the uprooted live in 34 so-called welfare camps. One of the camps, located at Polika'ndi in Vadamaraadchi North, has been severely affected by the floods. They are now sheltered at the Multi Purpose Cooperative Society building, the sources further said.

Western, Indian housing schemes used as trump card to weaken uprooted people’s struggle

[TamilNet, Sunday, 01 October 2017, 23:29 GMT]
The poverty-stricken uprooted Tamils from Valikaamam North in Jaffna, residing in more than 34 so-called welfare camps for three decades, are now being lured into buying alternative lands outside their military-occupied villages. Administrative officials deployed by occupying Colombo are giving an ultimatum that if the familes were to ‘qualify’ for housing schemes funded by India, Norway, Switzerland and the EU, they should buy lands elsewhere without delay. The housing schemes would disappear if the beneficiaries were to wait for their original lands to be released by the SL military, the families are being told. The western countries and India, that intentionally avoided demanding de-militarisation of the North-East in the post-war human rights discourse staged in Geneva, seem to be interested in grooming the hostile Sinhala military along the coast of Eezham Tamils in the North-East.

Forced conversion to Sinhala Buddhism deployed as tool of genocide in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Sunday, 27 August 2017, 23:06 GMT]
Occupying Colombo, its military and the exclusivist Sinhala Buddhist Theravada Establishment have jointly adopted the Western colonial model of religious conversations of poverty-stricken people at the lowest echelons forcing the Tamil people to convert to Buddhism and start learning Sinhala language. The forced religious conversions are being staged at two separate locations, Navatkuzhi and Puththoor, in the occupied Jaffna peninsula. High-ranking monks including the Chief Prelate (Mahanayakas thero) of the Asgiriya chapter have been scheduled to inspect the genocidal project of Sinhala-Buddhicisation at Puththoor in Valikaamam East and at Naavatkuzhi, informed sources in Jaffna told TamilNet on Sunday.

Mayiliddi people will not succumb to SL military resettlement farce: Subramaniyam

[TamilNet, Monday, 10 July 2017, 13:07 GMT]
It doesn't matter which regime was in power in Colombo. But, it was a Colombo government that created the mind-set in the ranks of SL military that in turn of war victories, it was ‘rewarded’ with all kinds of abuse of power such as raping Tamil women and seizing the lands of Eezham Tamils. This mindset still prevails in the ranks of the SL military and is the main attitude also behind the deceptive ‘resettlement’ farce in Valikaamam North, says Suntharam Subramaniam, the chairman of Mayiliddi Uprooted Peoples’ Organisation. The 58-year-old father of four, who resides in the so-called welfare camp at Koa'nappulam in Mallaakam in Jaffna, systematically deconstructs the destructive trends of the military-led, international community abetted and ITAK-contained resettlement farce in a video interview to TamilNet.
