EPDP members attacked in Valaichchenai

Unknown assailants hurled hand grenades at the cadres of the paramilitary Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) selling "Thinamurasu", a weekly paper printed by EPDP, at Kanagaretnam road junction in Valaichchenai Police division in Batticaloa district, around 10:30 a.m. Friday, sources said. No one was injured in the attack.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead three cadres of Eelam People's Democratic Front (EPDP), including the group's principal organizer for the Jaffna islets, at 11:30 a.m. in the central part of Jaffna town Thursday, sources from Jaffna said. One EPDP cadre was injured in the attack. EPDP is a paramilitary group operating with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA). A youth was killed and the owner of a clothing store was injured when Sri Lanka Police opened fire after the killings.

3 men abducted in Colombo, killed in Valaichchenai, 1 decapitated

Three Tamil men who were abducted in Colombo Wednesday, were found shot and knifed to death in Valaichchenai, 30 km north of Batticaloa, Thursday night. One of the victims was decapitated, two shot and killed Thursday night around 11:30 p.m. The decapitated man, a former cadre of the paramilitary group EPDP, had left the group two years ago, opposing the activities of the group. A white-van squad had visited the families of the victims earlier in the day.

Unidentified men shot and injured EPDP members in Vavuniya

Two members of a paramilitary group Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) were shot and injured at Kurumankadu area in Vavuniya by unidentified persons. The injured cadres were first admitted to the Vavuniya general hospital and later transferred to Anuradhapura hospital. The shooting had taken place close to the EPDP office in Kurumankadu, Vavuniya Police said.

Gunmen force Uthayan to carry their statement

Gunmen forced their way into the Jaffna offices of the Uthayan newspaper Thursday evening, threatened the staff and handed over a statement to be published in the newspaper, the Free Media Movement (FMM) said Friday. “The armed group had come in motorbikes. This incident took place during the curfew hours in heavily militarised Jaffna,” the FMM said, quoting details from the Managing Director of the newspaper group, Mr. E. Saravanapavan.

Bomb wounds EPDP official in Colombo

A senior official of a pro-government paramilitary group and 9 other people were wounded in a bomb explosion in Colombo Tuesday. Sankarapillai Sivathasan, a senior advisor to the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) and one its former a parliamentarians, was rushed to hospital. A security personnel and a 3-year old child in the vehicle were killed in the blast.

The meeting was arranged to discuss the current ground security situation in the district with the SLMM and to brief the SLMM about the difficulties faced by Tamil civilians in Muttur east, LTTE sources said. The meeting was held in the LTTE district political secretariat located in Sampoor in the Muttur east.
