Missing VVT fisherman's body washed ashore

SLA bars UC from using HSZ dumping ground

Chavakachcheri Urban Council (UC) in Thenmaradchchi division in Jaffna district has been facing difficulties in disposing the garbage collected within the town limit following the refusal by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) to allow UC workers to take lorries with garbage to the dumping ground in Kannadipitti area, which is located in the high security zone (HSZ). Hence UC workers daily remove all garbage to areas in close proximity to HSZ and burn, local authority sources said.

SLA asked to consider allowing cultivation in Jaffna HSZ

Pt. Pedro UC should turn in keys daily, orders SLA

Farmer shot dead outside HSZ bund in Jaffna

Mr. Arunasalam Muthiah, 75-year-old farmer and father of five children was shot dead Thursday evening when he was working in his agricultural plot by two unidentified men who came in a motorbike with helmets. The incident took place outside the high security zone bund at Punnaliakattiuwan north in Jaffna district, Police sources said. About four shots were fired at him, according to the Police.

The owners have now issued ultimatum to launch a campaign demanding the return of their houses in failing to pay rent, sources said.

Price hikes ease Jaffna farmers' burden

Tellipalai cancer hospital to get a new lease of life
