Tigers release 4 POWs

Teachers urge action on Tamil text books

1000 SLA troops killed - LTTE

The Liberation Tigers said today they had captured vast areas of Ampakamam from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA). In a statement issued from its London offices, the LTTE said its fighters "swept westwards" today in the direction of the A9 highway. Over 1000 SLA soldiers have been killed, the LTTE said, adding 60 of its fighters also died in the fighting so far.

Deputy Defence Minister in Vavuniya

Heavy casualties in Vanni battle

Tigers raise flag at Oddusuddan

SLA offensive continues - LTTE

The Liberation Tigers said today they had inflicted heavy casualties on Sri Lanka Army (SLA) units which had advanced into LTTE territory on October 14 on twin fronts to the east and west of Mankulam. Scores of SLA troops and 48 Tigers were killed in the heavy fighting which is continuing, a press release issued by the LTTE's International Secretariat in London today.

Amnesty condemns Amparai killings

Amnesty International Monday condemned the killing of more than 50 Sinhalese civilians in a predawn raid on three villages in the Amparai district. In a statement issued today, Amnesty said the Liberation Tigers might have carried out the attack in retaliation for the deaths of 22 Tamil civilians at Puthukkudiyiruppu, Mullaitivu district, in a bombing raid by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) on 15 September.
