Tamil Resurgence Convention to be held in Muttur east

Tamil Resurgence Convention (TRC) is to be held on January 10 evening at Kadatkaraichchenai, a village in the LTTE held Muttur east. This is the first convention to be held in the New Year 2006 in the northeast. The main objective of the TRC is to seek the international community to recognize the self-determination rights of the Tamil-speaking people in the northeast province, organizers said.

Grenade attack in Point Pedro

Unknown assailants riding a motorbike hurled a grenade at the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) checkpoint in Navalady in Alvai, Point-Pedro at 1.15 p.m. Saturday, sources said. Unconfirmed reports said two SLA soldiers were injured in the attack. SLA sources did not confirm any injuries in the explosion. During the indiscriminate firing by the SLA troops following the attack, Sivaraja Jesipan, 13, a school boy walking close to the sentry, was seriously injured, sources said.

Two LTTE cadres die in SLA's claymore attack in Trincomalee

The Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Thambalakamam jungle has killed two cadres of Liberation Tigers Friday early morning around 2 a.m in a claymore mine attack. The attack took place inside the LTTE held area, Elilan, Political Head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for Trincomalee district, told TamilNet Saturday.

SLN Dvora reported missing

A Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Dvora fast attack craft has been reported missing off the coast of Trincomalee, naval sources said. A big explosion was heard off the coast of Foul Point around 2.30 a.m. Saturday, police in the eastern port town said. A statement issused by the Sri Lanka Army said two survivors of the crew have been found and thirteen are still missing and the Dvora has sunk without any traces. Liberation Tigers' media spokesperson Daya Master, speaking to TamilNet from Kilinochchi, said that LTTE has no involvement in the explosion.

SLA's Deep Penetration Unit responsible for Claymore attack - LTTE

LTTE's Political Head of Mannar District, Mr. Iniyavan, said Wednesday that there were two Claymore mines bound to a tree and wired to a triggering device operated a few meters away from the spot where LTTE Vavuniya West Political Co-ordinatar Major Jeyanthan was killed with a civilian supporter riding in a motorbike Tuesday. "A deep penetration unit of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) is known to operate from the Iranai Illuppaikulam SLA base," Iniyavan told TamilNet after showing the site to Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) members Wednesday morning. The Claymore explosion that claimed the life of Maj. Jeyanthan, took place 4 km near Chinnavalayankattu, 47 km east of Mannar.

Trincomalee students died of gunshot wounds- Medical Report

Dr.Gamini Gunatunge, Judicial Medical Officer who held the postmortem examination held in the Trincomalee general hospital on the bodies of five Tamil youths killed on Tuesday by the State armed forces in Trincomalee sea beach area, ruled that the students died due to gunshot injuries. The JMO's report has been handed over to the Trincomalee Magistrate's Court.

Tamil Americans urge Co-chairs to promote "equal partnership for peace”

A group of US organizations representing Tamil Americans, in a letter sent to Co-chairs of the Tokyo Donor Conference Monday, welcomed the Co-chairs' call for an immediate meeting of the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers, and urged the Co-chairs to make clear to both sides that attacks on civilians will not be tolerated, ask military to withdraw from civilians homes and public buildings and to threaten SL Government with sanctions if steps are not taken to disarm paramilitaries.

Mannar court remands Tamil youth

LTTE official, civilian killed in Claymore attack

The Claymore mine was allegedly exploded by a group of Sri Lankan soldiers around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, according to the sources.

However, on the day the article appeared, two soldiers were killed in a Batticaloa landmine attack. Enraged soldiers massacred 150 Tamil civilians (13 June) in Kokkadichcholai. LTTE retaliated by killing 19 soldiers (20 June) in an ambush, leading to continued blood letting as Eelam War II (June 1990 to 1994) was fought without any hopes of peace talks.

920 Tamils arrested in major cordon, search operation in Colombo

Sri Lankan Military troopers and the Colombo Police have arrested 920 Tamils, including 105 Tamil women, in a joint cordon and search operation in Colombo between Friday midnight and Saturday noon, police said. The arrested were taken in busses to 8 different police stations and were being photographed, finger-printed and videoed by the Sri Lankan Intelligence agencies, informed sources said. The search operation was conducted in Tamil residential areas in Wellawatte, Bambalapitiya, Maradana, Kotahena, Grandpass and Mutuwal. Fifty three Tamils were detained after identity-registration in the operation code named "Strangers Night III," Police said.

Claymore discovery, a deception by SLN, SLA, says LTTE

The alleged discovery of claymore mines by the Sri Lanka security forces in Mannar Pattithottam area and along Mannar-Madavachchi road is a canard concocted by the Security forces to create a war atmosphere in the area, said the Mannar district Political Wing of the Liberation Tigers in a press release issued Friday. "We deny any involvement in the planting of these mines and condemn the Sri Lanka security forces for creating conditions where Mannar residents can be subjected to further harassment and indiscriminate attacks," said the release.
