Terror squad assaults Tamil journalist in Vadamaraadchi, Jaffna

0A squad, believed to be operated by the Sri Lankan military intelligence on Monday evening chased and attacked 29-year-old Sivagnanam Selvatheepan, a leading journalist in Vadamaraadchi. When the journalist attempted to escape from the squad, the attackers chased him on foot and assaulted him causing severe internal injuries to his head. The squad also broke one of his legs. The brutal assault comes just one week after the so-called Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) of occupying Colombo had obtained his motorbike registration number, identity card number and cell phone details through Nelliyadi police in Jaffna.

SL military threatens former LTTE members, civilians from Batticaloa

The occupying Sri Lankan military intelligence operatives have detained 3 Eezham Tamils from Batticaloa district in recent days. A couple and their kids living in Vavuniyaa were detained by the so-called Terrorist Investigation Division, interrogated at Vavuniyaa TID office and later transferred to Boossa detention in Colombo. The arrest was made in Vavuniyaa on 06 April. Both, the husband and wife were former LTTE members in Batticaloa who had left the movement before the defection of Karuna. They were arrested in Vavuniyaa where they were employed. Their three children have been handed over to the grand parents in Aayithiya-malai, news sources in Batticaloa said.

SL military steps up harassment on IDPs as US draft drops ‘de-militarisation’ in Geneva

As the US draft that already failed Tamils by dropping international investigation on Sri Lankan State gets further watered down in its demands at the corridor discourse at Human Rights Council in Geneva, the occupying SL military in North and East of the island has strengthened its grip on Tamil people who have been determined with seeking justice on the ground. While those demanding the SL State to reveal the whereabouts of their missing family members in the North are subjected to harassments by the intelligence wing of the SL military, the uprooted Champoor Tamils still languishing in temporary huts in four camps in Moothoor East in Trincomalee are left to rotten with deteriorating health conditions in their camps, the women in the camps complain.

Swiss agency brings in genocidal governor to open schools in Jaffna Peninsula

0The Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), a Switzerland government ‘development’ outfit operating in the country of Eezham Tamils, shows its ‘cooperation’ with the genocidal Sinhala State and sends a humiliating development message to Tamils by bringing in the military governor occupying North, Maj. Gen. (retd) G. A. Chandrasri to open two schools at Thadduvaan-koddi and Uduth-thu’rai in the Jaffna Peninsula on Thursday, commented local people who provided a copy of the invitation to TamilNet. The SDC has made an impressive image among the people by the quality of the work it has done, but a ‘development’ that comes with impunity culture and justification of occupation is not development but spiritual and psychological subjugation and degradation, they further said.

Parliamentarians banned while military stages programmes in schools in North

A circular sent to schools in the Northern Province of the country of Eezham Tamils at the orders of the occupying governor of the Sinhala State, Maj. Gen. G.A. Chandrasri aimed at banning Tamil parliamentarians participating any school programmes in the province. The circular dated 20 June and signed by Education, Culture and Sports Secretary, S. Sathiaseelan, functioning under the Sinhala governor, said that without prior permission from the SL governor, no function could take place in the schools in which parliamentarians participate. The target is the TNA-MPs, public circles said. Meanwhile, schools in Vanni, especially the Ki’linochchi High School, have become permanent programme centres for the occupying Sinhala military, said TNA-MP Mr Sritharan.

Uprooted people are not resettled in their original villages in Champoor area. Some selected displaced who preferred to move out of the IDP camps due to personal reasons are settled in alternative sites that are not fit for habitation, according to reports emerging from the area.

Buddha statue forcibly placed in playground of Muslim school in Batticaloa

Muslims of Oaddamaavadi village in Batticaloa were shocked on Monday early morning this week when they saw a Buddha statue placed on a table in the middle of the playground of Pi'rainthu'raich-chenai Ashar Viththiyaalayam in Vaazhaich-cheanai. Oaddamavadi is a Muslim dominated town, located 32 km north of Batticaloa city. The playground is located close to Buddha Jayanthi Vihara in Vaazhaich-cheanai. The head of the Buddhist vihara had attempted to seize the playground from the school in 2010.

SL military arrests husbands, sexually harasses wives in Trinco

The military intelligence officers of the occupying Sri Lanka Army frequent the houses of former LTTE members and combatants under the pretext of investigations and are attempting to sexually harass the wives while keeping their husbands in prolonged detention, reliable sources in Trincomalee told TamilNet on Monday. The Sri Lankan military officers who came from Kaddai-pa’richchaan camp had arrested 16 men in Moothoor, after the so-called Independence Day celebrations staged by Colombo in Trincomalee on 04 February 2013. All of the victims, except one, are married and have at least two children. They have all been former LTTE members and some of them have married ex-LTTE females. The SL military intelligence operatives from the Kaddai-pa’richchaan camp have been harassing the wives of the detained husbands.

Ka'l'liyang-kaadu Copper Plates A copper plate grant issued by the chieftains of Vanni in the Dutch times, refers to an earlier charity; a mutt built by the King of Jaffna, Pararaja Sekaran at Chithamparam in Tamil Nadu, and on the charities made by chieftains of different parts of Vanni to another mutt built by a Vanni chieftain, Kayilaaya Vanniyan, at Chithamparam. The present conditions of the royal mutt of the Kingdom of Jaffna, called Iraasaakka’l Thampiraan Madam and the Vanni Chieftain’s mutt called Kayilaaya Vanniyan Madam at Chithamparam are not known today. The copper plates in the custody of a family at Ka’l’liyang-kaadu in Nalloor, Jaffna, were deciphered and published earlier by Dr S. Gunasingham of Trincomalee and by Prof S. Pathmanathan. A mutt at Chithamparam, in the name of the Ka’l’liyang-kaadu village is in completely ruined conditions today.

Wild elephants deployed by Colombo's forest department claim lives of Tamils in Batticaloa

Sri Lankan Forest Department, in recent weeks, has brought in a number of wild elephants from Sinhala areas into the jungles adjacent to Koa'ra'laip-pattu South Division of the Batticaloa district, where uprooted Tamil people have resettled after the end of war. The Divisional Secretary of Koa'ra'laippattu South, Mr Thanabalasundaram, when contacted by reporters in Batticaloa, admitted that two Tamil civilians have been killed within the last 30 days by the wild elephants that have gone amok on the villagers and their properties. The lives and the livelihood of 3,000 Tamil villagers are threatened by the presence of more than 50 wild elephants of the Sinhala forest department.

SL ‘Terrorist’ squad arrests 7 Tamils in Moothoor East

An elite squad of the Sri Lankan ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID) that arrived in Trincomalee on Monday from Colombo has been conducting search operations in the district targeting Tamil youth. The squad has so far arrested 7 Tamils and transferred them to Colombo from Moothoor police station, news sources said. The latest rounds of harassments by the TID squad is reported following the protest by Eezham Tamils who had put up posters condemning the observation of the SL ‘independence’ day in Trincomalee.

British diplomat briefed on demographic genocide taking place in Trincomalee

Uprooted Champoor Tamil families numbering about 1,250 are undergoing untold sufferings in temporary shelters due to ongoing heavy rain and strong winds. Temporary shelters situated in Kaddai-pa'richchaan, Ki'liveddi, Manatcheanai and Paddiththidal are under flood waters and the latrines are submerged in the water, according to C. Thandayuthapani, the opposition leader in the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC).

Tamils vote with Muslims in EPC against SLA land grab of Muslim village

The Eastern Provincial Council (EPC), which is now under the control of ruling United People Freedom Alliance (UPFA) passed a resolution unanimously Tuesday against the appropriation by the Sri Lanka Army of the entire traditional Muslim village, Karimayilaiyoottu with a century old mosque. C.Thandayuthapani, the opposition leader in the EPC who represents the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) extended full support to the motion saying that no one would tolerate the appropriation of a traditional Muslim village and the mosque by the Sri Lankan military. The resolution was brought by Ameer Ali, a ruling party member, at the monthly meeting of the EPC.

SL Police in Champoor appropriates public playground in Naavaladi

Sri Lankan government officials in Colombo have instructed the divisional secretary of Moothoor to hand over a play ground, about four acres in extent, situated at the centre of several villages in Champoor area to the occupying SL police, civil officials told media. The Moothoor DS is the sole authority of the playground. The Divisional Secretary has handed over the playground for the use of the SL police camped at Champoor without seeking the consent of the people of the area and the school administration.
