Amidst the big propaganda, no residential lands were released. In order to secure such funds, the agent-State in Colombo is relentlessly seizing the lands of Tamil-speaking peoples in the North and East. Retired Land Commissioner of Eastern Province, Mr Kathirkamathamby Kurunathan, in an interview to TamilNet this week was citing Gazetted seizure of lands from Musali in Mannaar to Ampaa'rai in the East and illustrated how these appropriations were circumventing even the safeguards of the SL Constitution and the principles of natural justice. A torture chamber operated by the occupying Sinhala military was earlier discovered in the same area, which comes under KKS South, J-235, village area (GS). The rotten motorbikes were recovered while the owner of the land, Mr Niranjan from Kuru Veethi, was clearing his recently released land to reconstruct the well. As soon as the nearby SL Police station was notified on the discovery, a white-van emerged from the military zone and two men in civil clothes forcefully removed the number plates from the two motorbikes, eyewitnesses said. The photos taken at his huts during the occasion were used in the mainstream media in the South and outside the island. Following the PR visit of SL President, the occupying military commanders came and asked to identify the location of his land in Mayiliddi, which he did. But, the land was not released as promised. On the contrary, the SL military has started to exploit his land by scooping sand in large scale, Mr Thavam told TamilNet on Sunday. All the trees that stood there and the remains of his properties are all razed to the ground within the last 16 months. The officials, operating under ‘ministerial instruction’ from Colombo to collaborate with the designs of the occupying SL military at Palaali in Jaffna, have been locking some of these families telling them that they would ultimately receive their lands in Valikaamam North in future, but until that time comes, they should move out of the welfare camps into lands they purchase with the money offered by SL Resettlement Ministry as a ‘temporary’ measure. The destruction caused by military land-grab in Champoor in Trincomalee, at Keapppaa-pulavu in Mullaiththeevu, at Valikaamam North in Jaffna and at Mu’l’lik-ku’lam in Mannaar are similar. The intention of the SL State has been the same. These protests are integral part of the struggle for the territorial integrity of the homeland of Tamil-speaking people in the North-East, she said. Full story >> [TamilNet, Tuesday, 07 March 2017, 20:50 GMT] The organizations representing the uprooted people from Valikaamam North in Jaffna, who are all fed up by decades of deceptions by the changing regimes in Colombo that refuse to de-militarize and allow the people to resettle in their fertile villages, have resolved this week to step up their struggle by joint action in the future. Only some of the occupied lands were returned at Keappaa-pulavu and at Puthukkudiyiruppu. The occupying military is undeterred in its project of militarization. The human rights politics in Geneva advanced primarily by Obama’s USA bandwagon had completely neglected Tamil demands. While deploying Tamil victims and activists at side-events, the discourse targeting regime change through appeasing the genocidal State of Sri Lanka, has only contributed to accelerated militarization of Tamil homeland. The families of uprooted Tamils in Puthukkudiyiruppu (PTK) in the district have also been on a continuous protest in front of the SL Army base at the heart of PTK. NPC Councillors M.K. Shivajilingam and Ananthy Sasitharan organised a protest with the participation of fellow struggle-centric NPC councillors, civic members and families of enforced-disappeared after 18 May 2009. The SL Police came with a stay order from Jaffna Magistrate S. Satheestharan, who had written in Tamil that the stay order was about a protest disturbing the public on A9 Road. A few weeks ago, the fishermen families shifted their work from displaced Inparuddi area in Vadamaraadchi North to their own village in Palaali. After the SL military allowed them to access the sea 60 days ago, the fishermen were only able to make it to sea for 5 days, says 34-year-old Sujeevan Antonypillai, a resettled fisherman. The UNDP, after promising to put up the fisheries infrastructure, has delayed it. Housing was provided through Indian Housing Scheme, which was initiated in May 2016.
