Committee formed to co-ordinate psychosocial counselling

In a meeting held at the Planning and Development Secretariat (PDS) in Kilinochchi 10.30 am Saturday to draw plans for further promoting effective delivery of psycho-social services, Rev Father Edmond Reginald was elected to lead a Committee that is tasked to co-ordinate such efforts in the NorthEast, sources in Kilinochchi said. Director of TamilEelam Health Services, S Vickraman presided the event.

Tamileelam TV to begin broadcasts to SouthEast Asia

Environmental Commission formed in Kilinochchi

0The inaugural event of the Thamileelam Commision for Environmental Governance (TCEG) was held at the Planning and Development Secretariat (PDS) located in Kilinochchi presided by Liberation Tiger's Head of Political Wing S P Thamilchelvan at 10 am Saturday, sources in Kilinochchi said. The main mission of the Commission is to ensure environmental protection in the NorthEast, PDS officials said.

GTZ funds resettlement of ex-garrison town

Minibus carrying students escapes landmine blast

A minibus carrying more than 70 students travelling to participate in Tamileelam Students Uprising Day in Kaludavalai from LTTE controlled Pankudaveli in Batticaloa narrowly escaped a Claymore landmine attack at 8.30 AM on Thursday. The incident took place 100 meters from a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) checkpoint at Koduvamadu in Chenkallady-Badulla Road.

Lack of normalcy eclipsed by joint mechanism debate - Thamilchelvan

P. Thamilchelvan told Norwegian diplomats Friday. The extraordinary focus on a post-tsunami aid management mechanism is masking the severity of the obstructions to rehabilitation work and the day-to-day difficulties faced by ordinary people, Mr. Thamilchelvan told Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Hans Brattskar, when they met in Kilinochchi.

SEDB distributes solar power units to Mulankavil villagers

NE Athletic Federation formed

The Athletic Federation of North East Province was inaugurated Saturday in Killinochchi. Representatives from eight District Athletic Association attended the inaugural meeting with Mr.K.Paapa, Head of the Tamileelam Sports Department as the chief guest. Federations for Football, Netball, Karate and Cricket Council for the North East Province would also be formed before the end of February, Mr.Paapa said at the event, sources said.

Tsunami official death toll hits 5000

0Official death toll from the Tsunami waves that hit northeastern and southern coast of Sri Lanka Sunday morning was increased to 5000, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry sources told TamilNet. Government officials in the devastated eastern town Batticaloa said only about twenty five of more than thousand families in Navalady, a coastal suburb of Batticaloa, appear to have survived the massive waves.

Colombo's new proposal aims to hurt NorthEast education- paper

"When Tamils captured more places under the merit system, the SriLankan Government introduced the district quota system, and now when the Tamils are highly dependent on the district quota system the Government is out to topple this avenue," the editorial added.

TECH donates solar systems to educational institutions
