Airforce bombing kills four civilians

SLA warns civilians of major assault

The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) warned today civilians living near LTTE camps and positions, to move away to protect themselves from the attacks by the security forces. The warning was sent over the Jaffna radio broadcast at 5.00 p.m. and 11.00 p.m. This special transmission can be listened only in the Jaffna peninsula.

Transport restrictions hit Vadamaradchi

Jaffna islands get telephones

Three islands off Jaffna have been linked by telephone for the first time ever. The islands of Eluvaithivu, Analaithivu and Nainathivu have each been given a special Motorola cellular phone unit. Civilians in these islands can now communicate with the outside world on these phones.

Lanka Muditha to sail tomorrow

Partial resettlement in Kilinochchi

The Liberation Tigers have told civilians displaced from Kilinochchi during the Sri Lankan Army's (SLA) 'Operation Sath Jaya' in 1996 that they would allow them to re-settle in areas between Murigandy and bus depot junction, an area of about 9 km. Kilinochchi was captured by the SLA in August 1996. The Tigers captured the town from the SLA last month.

In this case eight soldiers of Sri Lankan army have been charged with the murder of 24 Tamil civilians and attempted murder of 26 Tamil civilians on 11.02.1996 at Kumarapuram of remote village in Muttur division about 20 miles, south of Trincomalee town.

Search operation in Valaichenai

Jaffna travellers arrive in Trincomalee

The Lanka Muditha, a cargo vessel chartered by the Sri Lankan Government to transport civilians to and from Jaffna, arrived at the eastern port of Trincomalee this morning around 9.30. A civilian passenger said that about 1000 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and 626 civilian passengers had travelled on the ship from Jaffna.
