SLA shoots dead youth in Vadamaraadchi

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops shot dead a youth riding his bicycle at Thikkam area in Vadamaraadchi Wednesday morning, sources in Point Pedro said. Due to a cordon and search operation in progress in the area from Wednesday morning details about the youth is not available. Point Pedro Base hospital sources said though they have not received the body of the youth, they have confirmation that a shooting incident has taken place in Thikkam.

SLA soldier killed during bomb clearing operation

Couple shot, injured in Batticaloa

SLA orders government officials to resume census work in Jaffna

Hope amid tragedy

Antony, a six year old boy lost his leg, his 4-year old brother Reginathan was killed, his mother and 6-month old brother were injured, and his father Jegan lost his leg during 02 January attack by Kfir fast attack aircrafts of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) at the coastal hamlet of Padakuththu’rai in Iluppaikadavai, Mannar town. SLA uses Muslim villagers as human shields in Mannaar

Around fifty Muslim families in the Muslim villages in Musali division in Mannnar are being used as human shields by the Sri Lanka Army that entered the area Saturday morning. Meanwhile, the Tamil civilians in Mu'l'likku'lam village, are moving to LTTE controlled area, sources in Achchangku'lam in Naanaaddaan division said. The area concerned is accessible to both LTTE and SLA but there has been no resistance from the LTTE, the sources added.

SLA denies access to Muslim cultivators' farmland

DPU Claymore kills 9 fleeing civilians in Mannaar

Nine civilians fleeing from a Sri Lanka Army offensive towards Chilaavaththu'rai in Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) controlled territory in Musali, Mannaar, were killed and six including children wounded in a Claymore attack carried out by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) Saturday at 8:35 a.m. Two ambulances sent from Mannaar hospital to transport the wounded were blocked at Chi'rukka'ndal SLA camp. It has taken more than 6 hours to transport the wounded towards Mannaar hospital through a separate route via Achchangku'lam, medical sources said.

SLA collects details of mobile phones in Jaffna

The SLA has already collected the details of the motor vehicles in the peninsula, and at present is collecting the details of the bicycles. Liberation Tigers offered stiff resistance against the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), defeating the SLA attempt Friday around 6:40 a.m, to advance from Vi'laathiku'lam in Mannaar district into LTTE territory, according to LTTE Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan. The body of an SLA trooper and weapons left behind have been recovered by the LTTE, Ilanthirayan said.

RSF urges EU, US to help protect Sri Lanka journalist

Reporters sans frontiers (RSF) in a press release issued Wednesday urged European and US Embassies to do their utmost to protect Iqbal Athas, investigative journalist of the Sunday Times weekly in Sri Lanka, who had gone into hiding for fear of his life after he published an article, revealing corruptions Sri Lanka State's purchase of Mig-fighter jets from Ukraine. Athas finds himself the target of some members of the government and the army and Sri Lanka's President should order the speedy restoration of Iqbal Athas' security, RSF further said in the press release.

Batticaloa farmers want SLA to vacate occupied Agrarian Service Centers

During a high-level District Development Council meeting Saturday, chaired by Amir Ali, MP, Minister of Disaster Management, the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) declined to remove the army camps currently set up in the Agrarian Service Centers in Karadiyanaa'ru, Ma'ndapaththadi and Vaakarai, citing security reasons. The representatives of the Agrarian Societies had asked the SLA to relocate the camps saying that more than 11,000 farmers are affected by the camps.

Family man seeks protection with Jaffna HRC

SLA orders special IDs to Jaffna residents

Artillery duel in northern FDLs

SLA confirmed the exchange of fire, but did not release information on casualties or damages.

Cost of new ID cards to be borne by Jaffna residents

People's Committee for Justice, Peace and Goodwill (PCJPG), the Federation of NGOs and the Human Rights Commission (HRC), in Jaffna have requested the High Commands of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) 51-2 Brigade in Jaffna to bear the cost of the Special Identity Cards (SID), that the SLA has ordered all the residents of the peninsula above the age of ten.
