SL military defies court order, erects Buddha statue in Mullaith-theevu

Emboldened by the recent re-emergence of Rajapaksa brothers in the South, the occupying Sinhala Army has erected a Buddha statue at Neeraavi-eattam (Neeraaviyadi) on Friday. The SLA 593 Brigade was openly violating a stay order on converting Pazhaiya-Chemmalai Pi'l'liaayar temple into a Buddhist vihara, Karai-thu'raip-pattu Divisional Secretariat officials told TamilNet on Monday. The SL Army soldiers were having a Buddha statue covered in a glass box inside their camp. On Friday, they moved it to the disputed Neeraaviyadi temple, the sources said. Both the UNP regime, which was controlling the SL Archaeology Department until recently, SL President Maithiripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa's SLPP have been competing to Sinhalicise Neeraaviyadi, the Tamil officials said.

Wickramasinghe worse in China dealings: Namal Rajapaksa

Sirisena's ‘Sri Lanka’ with biggest decline in Internet freedom in 2018

Internet freedom declined dramatically in ‘Sri Lanka’ in 2018 following major restrictions to connectivity and social media platforms during communal violence in March, says a comprehensive global study of internet freedom in 65 countries. The study was carried out by the Washington DC based Freedom House, which said its study covered 87 per cent of the world’s internet users. Of the 65 countries assessed, 26 have been on an overall decline since June 2017, compared with 19 that registered net improvements. The biggest score declines took place in Egypt and Sri Lanka, followed by Cambodia, Kenya, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Venezuela, the report said.

UNP promoted Sinhala colonisation of Vanni allocating housing scheme

The United National Party (UNP) has allocated more than 10% of houses provided to resettling people in Mullaiththeevu district to Sinhala colonisers in Ma'nal-aa'ru, which is Sinhalicised into Weli-Oya and is functioning as a separate division within the district, civil sources at the District Secretariat said. The houses have been provided within the past three years, the sources further said.

In today’s New York Times his son said he is going to run for President next year and they will win. We will be back to where we were in 2009, a Decade ago. The constitutional coup is an outcome of a fierce competition raging between UPFA and UNP agents, who want to exploit the accelerating trade-war between the two powers, the USA and China. The USA has already established its strategic military access to the island through India. The current dispute is not aimed at taking military or diplomatic side with a particular actor, Tamil political observers in Jaffna said. The right-wing populistic SLPP led by Rajapaksa, the strongman from Hambantota and the centre-left SLFP chaired by Sirisena, another strongman from Polonnaruwa, are staunch Sinhala nationalist parties having the blessings of the Buddhist establishment. The SL military is excited by their unity. Tamils, having no leadership after the LTTE, are puzzled. They are deceived to believe that China is behind Rajapaksa and that the USA is sticking with Wickramasinghe.

Sirisena stages constitutional coup, installs Rajapaksa as SL Prime Minister

The executive president of genocidal Sri Lanka, Maithiripala Sirisena, has suddenly installed former SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the SL Prime Minister after withdrawing his UPFA from the so-called ‘good governance’ alliance on Friday night. The soft parliamentary coup, which seems to be a carefully planned secret move, has been justified by Mr Sirisena as adhering to the constitutional provisions of the unitary state. Mr Sirisena, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, had this already in mind when he addressed the UN General Assembly last month in the USA, political observers in Jaffna commented. Maithiripala was praising his troops on the ground during his UN visit to Donald Trump's USA. The UNP is now reaping what it sowed 40 years ago in 1978 when the late J.R. Jayawardene introduced the executive presidency.

Colombo released only 50% of allocated 2018 funds to NPC

The unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka, both under Mahinda Rajapaksa and Maithiripala Sirisena, have been waging propaganda that the Northern Provincial Council was ineffective and that it has even returned allocated sums without deploying them for projects. In reality, Colombo was not even allocating the required funds to the NPC, and it was running a parallel system competing and isolating the elected NPC. The NPC has only received 2,035 million LKR of 4,314 million LKR which was supposed to be released by the SL General Treasury until the end of the official term of the first Northern Provincial Council on Thursday.

SL Police steps up harassment of Tamils after Sinhala extremist MPs heritage-trip

The latest harassment comes after Sinhala parliamentarians belonging to Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) or National Freedom Front, an extreme Sinhala nationalist JVP-breakaway group, which is aligned with former SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa, visited Mullaiththeevu and Vavuniyaa earlier this month and confronted the Tamil villagers.

Tamils should form global action group on mass grave investigation

Extreme racist sections of the Sinhala establishment in the south of the island would go to whatever extent possible in their attempt to cover up and suppress investigations on exhumed mass graves in the north, legal activists representing the kith and kin of enforced disappeared Tamils in Mannaar said. At the same time, the justice system of the occupying unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka is sophisticatedly derailing every attempt to conduct forensic analyses on the exhumed human skeletons by a neutral and international third-party, they said. The legal activists urged global Tamils to form an action group to demand international legal organisations such as the International Commission of Jurists to address the issue.

Rajapaksa ally vows to erect Buddhist viharas in Vanni

The JNP parliamentarians were accompanied by an extremist Buddhist monk who has been blocked by Mullaiththeevu Magistrate from erecting Buddha statues under cover of so-called conservation.

USAID-funded project renders exploitation of Tamil farmers by export conglomerate

Poverty-stricken Eezham Tamil household farmers from Koa'ra'laip-pattu North (Vaakarai) division of Batticaloa, complain that they are systematically exploited by the SL State-owned Bank of Ceylon (BOC), which has threatened to seize their lands if they complained about exploitation by Hayleys Agriculture, the largest exporter of fruits in the island. The farmers were given technical assistance to commence Gherkin Cucumber farming with USAID assistance. The BOC maintains that the farmers have to pay back the initial funding by binding their sales to Hayleys. The produce is purchased at a low price, and if they complained about the exploitation, they would risk losing their lands, the BOC officials have threatened they said.

Collaborationist sections of TNA lose significance, Wigneswaran holds key to unified Tamil polity

Colombo schemes Sinhala military-led industrialisation of KKS exploiting geopolitics

The Indian Central Government has been claiming that assistance was meant for the development of the war-affected North. The entire area is still a Sinhala Military Zone. Now, plans are afoot to set up an IT industry through deploying occupying Sinhala military personnel with foreign assistance. In the meantime, SL military commander in Jaffna is also aiming to put up an export-oriented garments industry in KKS and is consulting with major garments industrial owners in the South.

131 Sinhala Buddhist installations crop up in North after 2009: NPC

No jobs, no compensation for lands seized by CEB in Champoor

The Ceylon Electricity Board has failed to compensate for agricultural and residential lands it had seized from Eezham Tamils in Champoor of Moothoor East in the district of Trincomalee. The company owned by the unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka has also discriminated Tamils in providing jobs during the construction phase despite its earlier promise to give preference to the people of the area in employment during the construction of the plant and after. Nothing seems to materialise, but the construction work of the plant is almost 40% complete, said Rural Development Society representatives in Champoor.

8 Tamil workers quit, ethnic harassment at SL State-run Coconut Garden in East

Eight Tamil workers at Paasikkudaa Coconut Model Garden have quit their jobs unable to tolerate the harassment meted out on them by the Sinhala-controlled management of the SL State-owned garden, which comes under the Batticaloa Regional Office of the Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB). The Sinhala administration of the CCB office in Batticaloa and its Paasikkudaa Garden management have moved on to appoint Sinhala workers to the positions of the permanent cadre after successfully evicting the Tamil workers from the garden. Only two of the positions have gone to a Tamil and a Tamil-spaking Muslim. The Sinhala officials have stepped up harassments on the Tamil workers since 2015 with the hidden agenda of evicting them from the Model Garden. A co-worker, who was previously a military soldier, was also deployed against them, the Tamil workers who have quit their jobs told TamilNet on Friday.
