Sea Tigers sink 2 Sri Lankan attack crafts, seize armament, capture troopers

0A Sea Tiger flotilla clashed with Sri Lanka Navy in the Northern waters killing 25 SLN troopers, capturing 4 troopers alive and destroying two Dvora Fast Attack Crafts, LTTE's Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan told TamilNet. The two Dvora FACs were seized and the Sea Tigers dismantled all the armament including a 23 mm cannon and a HK AGL gun. Dead body of a SLN trooper was also recovered by the Tigers. The clash erupted as Sea Tigers engaged in training activities were provoked by Sri Lanka Navy vessels in the seas off Nagarkovil in LTTE territorial waters, according to the Tiger spokesman. A third Dvora FAC was damaged. Five Sea Tigers were killed in close gunbattle, he said.

Trader shot dead in Point-Pedro

Two unidentified armed men riding bicycles shot dead a trader Tuesday around 8:30 a.m at his shop near Lourdes Mary Church on the Point Pedro-Thumpalai road in Point-Pedro, Vadamaradchi. The assailants, pretending as buyers, shot the trader and escaped.

One SLA trooper dead, another injured in Vadamaradchy claymore attacks

One Sri Lanka Army (SLA) trooper was killed and another seriously injured in two separate claymore attacks triggered by unknown persons on SLA road patrol units in Vadamaradchi Tuesday. The first attack launched around 8:30 a.m. along Udupidy- Vathiry road in Navindiln a SLA trooper was seriously injured, and an hour later in a second attack near Athiyady Kovil on Beach Road in Valvettithurai, a SLA trooper was killed on the spot, sources in Point Pedro said.

Killings, forced disappearances again on increase

Armed abductors, riding in white van and three-wheelers, during curfew imposed nights in Jaffna for the past 3 days, have abducted at least 10 persons, issuing death threats to the victims' families warning them not to file complaints with the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission (SLHRC) and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), according to eyewitnesses in Kokkuvil, 6 km northeast and Alaveddy, 11 km north of Jaffna town. Meanwhile, an automechanic was shot into his eyes and killed at his workshed at Thattatheru Junction Saturday around 3:30 p.m. A family man was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds in Vadamaradchi in the morning.

SLA reinforces artillery batteries in Northern Front

0The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) was seen moving truck loads of military hardware from its Palaly main base to Forward Defence Lines in Jaffna Monday. Consignments of artillery ammunition, mortar shells, and rockets were rushed in heavy military vehicles via two routes, Palaly-Jafffna Road leading to the A9 Muhamalai FDL, Ariyalai area and Point Pedro Road towards Nagarkovil FDL in Vadamaradchi East since Saturday night. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy ordered fishermen in Gurunagar to hand over more than 240 outboard motors and fishing boats, according to fisheries union officials in Jaffna.

SLA preparing for Jaffna offensive, Tigers warn SLMM

0Heavy deployment of Sri Lankan armed forces is reported in Thenmaradchi and Vadamaradchi East along the Northern Front Saturday, LTTE sources said. The Peace Secretariat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Saturday night, in an urgent communiqué to the Head of SLMM, informed Sri Lanka's military build-up and urged the monitors to take immediate steps to visit Muhamalai FDL and confirm Sri Lanka's preparations for the offensive. LTTE's Political Head told TamilNet that LTTE is concerned of SLMM's limited access to Muhamalai. Unhindered access is vital for a fair and neutral judgement on the SLA offensive that will likely lead to a full-scale war, Thamilchelvan said.

SLAF Kfir jets bomb Vadamaradchi East

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir bombers flew over Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled Kudarappu in Vadamaradchi East and dropped at least nine bombs in the area around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. Four Tsunami reconstructed houses were destroyed in the bombardment, according to residents.

Earlier, around 10:0 a.m., Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir bombers dropped at least 9 bombs in Pachchilaippalli village in Pallai in Thenmaradchi, destroying at least five civilian houses. Meanwhile, informed military circles in Colombo said some SLA coastal sentries near Nagarkovil camp were destroyed by the Sea Tigers in the fighting that ensued.

Satchithanantham Sasitharan, 25, of Alvai South, was working in a fuel station. SLA sustains heavy losses in fresh offensive

Sri Lanka’s military launched a ground offensive Saturday against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) territory in the northern Jaffna peninsula, after bombarding the area for two days. At least 25 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and around 125 wounded, informed military sources said. Wounded soldiers in more than five busses were rushed to Palaly and airlifted elsewhere for treatment. The artillery attacks ceased around noon as SLA forces were evacuating the wounded troopers.

An owner of a garage 100 meters away from an SLA sentry point in Stanley Road in Jaffna, a devotee returning home from Thurkai Amman Temple festival was gunned down at Maruthanarmadam Junction and a painter was shot dead in Uduppidy in Vadamaradchi. Two 8-year-old children and a mother wounded in the shootings were admitted to Jaffna hospital.

SLA intensifies search operations in Jaffna

Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldiers cordoned off several hamlets in Karaveddy area in Vadamaradchi and conducted a search from Sunday noon till evening. Around 600 villagers were herded to a tempel and were interrogated in front of of masked spotters. Three have been detained for further intorrogation, villagers said.
