SLA soldiers assault Vadamaradchchi youth

Mr.Soorasingham Prakash aged 19 was admitted Sunday night to the Valvettithurai government hospital with serious injuries alleged assaulted by a group of soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army stationed at the Viyaparimoolai army check point in Vadamaradchchi division in Jaffna district, civil sources in Vadamaradchy said.

SLA bars priest, trustees from entering temple

0Sri Lanka army Sunday refused permission to the priest and trustees of the Nagathambiraan temple in Nagarkoil to enter the place of worship for its annual pongal ceremony. The Nagathambiraan temple of Nagarkoil was taken over by Sri Lanka army in 2000. Permission to hold the annual pongal (cooking of milk rice) was granted to the priest and some trustees by the Sri Lankan military after Liberation Tigers and Colombo signed a cease fire agreement in 2002.

First LTTE medical service in SLA held area

0The medical services of the Liberation Tigers conducted free mobile clinics for civilians for the first time in areas controlled by the Sri Lanka military Friday. The program was inaugurated in Vavuniya by LTTE’s Thileepan medical services. Fifteen doctors led by Dr. Ezhumathi Karikalan provided medical services and advice to hundreds of people at the refugee camp in Poonthottam in the morning and later in Maharampaikulam in Vavuniya.

Curfew in Mannar after attack on LTTE office

Curfew was declared in Mannar Friday morning after a group of Muslims attacked the administrative office of the Liberation Tigers in the island town on Sri Lanka's northwestern coast around midnight. The attack was linked to the killing of a man suspected to be a drug smuggler on Thursday night near Pesalai, 15 kilometres west of Mannar. An LTTE official in Mannar said that the attack appeared to be aimed at instigating communal violence in the area. "No one was injured in the attacks on our office", he said.
