Trincomalee to observe general shut down Friday

Trincomalee Tamil Peoples' Forum (TTPF) Wednesday issued a statement appealing to Tamil speaking people of the port district to observe general shutdown (hartal) on Friday, 8 October, in support of the Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA) proposals of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and to urge the international community including United States of America (USA) to exert pressure on the Sinhala political parties to take steps to restart the peace process.

SLA permits dredging mooring points in Vadamaradchi again

Sri Lanka army Tuesday permitted fishermen to dig two mooring points in Valvettithurai. Work on one of the mooring points began Tuesday. Workmen who were on their way to Valvettithurai were, however, stopped by SLA at Polikandy but were allowed to proceed after commander of 54-2 Brigade in Pt. Pedro intervened.

North East Provincial Director of Education Mr.R.Visahalingam gave the ceremonial first cup of milk to a student during the ceremony.

"Thennamaravadi IDP's lands being encroached"- Sampanthan

The main event was held Sunday morning at Nallur Kandasamy Temple premises where Lt Colonel Thileepan passed away after two weeks fasting unto death putting forward five demands to the Indian Government.

If it is not for the CeaseFire Agreement (CFA) Sri Lanka would have been destroyed by now," said UNP MP for Puttalam District, Mr. Ekanayake, speaking in Parliament Friday on the adjournment motion presented by Trincomalee District JVP MP, Jayantha Wijesekera, parliamentary sources said. The motion condemned the abduction of two Homeguards by the LTTE and demanded their release.
