LTTE,TNA spell out basis for Tokyo meet participation

“The LTTE is of the view that before it participates in the Tokyo Aid Conference currently fixed for 9th and 10th June, the administrative, financial and other structures with adequate powers need to be established in order to reconstruct the northeast and to rehabilitate and restore normal civilian life in the northeast province”, said the Tamil National Alliance in a press release issued Wednesday on the outcome of the talks its delegation had with the LTTE political leadership on Tuesday in Killinochchi.

Akashi meets Pirapaharan

Japanese peace envoy in Killinochchi

Thanthai Chelva’s 26th death anniversary observed

Five day cultural festival concludes in Trincomalee

The five day Festival of Music, Dance and Drama concluded Saturday attended by large crowd at Trincomalee Orr's Hill Vivekandanda College auditorium. A9 opens for traffic on Sundays

The A9 highway to Jaffna will be open for public traffic on Sundays, starting today, Sri Lanka military sources said. The road was opened last year following the cease fire agreement between the LTTE and Colombo. But it remained closed on Sundays despite pleas by the Tigers to keep it open 7 days of the week. The road to the Vanni in Mannar through the Uyilankulam entry point was also opened to public traffic on Sundays from today.

Second SGI meeting held in Kilinochchi

The Sub-Committee on Gender Issues (SGI), established during the third round of negotiations between the LTTE and the Government of Sri Lanka in December 2002, held its second meeting in Kilinochchi on April 4 and 5. The delegates decided to work towards achieving equal representation of women in politics, eliminate gender biases in education, and to take up issues related to violence and sexual harassment of women, said a press release by the Sub-Committee.

Thamilchelvan meets Nobel Peace laureate

The Liberation Tigers believe that people’s support for the peace process could be obtained if the cease fire agreement is implemented fully, the head of the LTTE’s political division Mr. S. P Thamilchelvan told Nobel Peace Price winner Mr. John Hume, during discussions between the two in Kilinochchi Thursday, sources said. Mr. Hume was accompanied by Britain’s High Commissioner in Colombo and two senior officials from the British foreign office.
