Tamileelam bus service inaugurated in Muttur east

Tamileelam Transport Board (TTB) Saturday morning inaugurated its first bus service in the territory held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the Trincomalee district. Mr.Sithamban, LTTE Financial Head of the Trincomalee District cut the ribbon at an event held in Ganeshapuram in Muttur east and allowed the first to proceed to Verugal with passengers, sources said.

Two attacks against troops Saturday night, says SLA

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops on foot patrol in Irupalai area along Jaffna Point-Pedro came under fire from unknown gunmen Saturday evening, and in another incident in Chulipuram one SLA trooper was injured when unknown gunmen hurled a grenade at a SLA foot patrol, military sources in Jaffna said, without blaming any party for the attacks.

Two youths shot and killed in Jaffna

Two youths were shot and killed in Jaffna in two separate incidents in Nallur, Jaffna, Wednesday morning around 11:00. Unidentified gunmen riding in a motorbike shot and killed a youth on Konavalai lane in Kokkuvil East and another youth, around the same time, in Kondavil East on Potpathy lane, Police said. The victims are yet to be identified.

One SL Police, two civilians injured in Jaffna grenade attack

One Sri Lanka Police officer, Mr Piyantha, 46 was seriously injured in Nallur, Jaffna Aadiyapatham Road, Old junction when unknown gunmen hurled a grenade at the officer on patrol at 11.50 a.m. Friday, sources said. Two youths from Neervely, P Anushan, 23, and R Ravi, 21, who were riding on a bicycle closeby were also injured in the explosion. All three have been admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, medical sources said.

Two SLA soldiers injured in Kopay grenade attack

Unknown gunmen riding in a motorbike hurled grenades at a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) foot patrol near the Sub office of Valigamam east Pradeshya sabha building along the Jaffna Point Pedro road in Kopay at 1.15 p.m. injuring two soldiers, sources in Jaffna said. Military sources said that the condition of one of the soldiers remains serious.

Grenade attack in Point Pedro

Unknown assailants riding a motorbike hurled a grenade at the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) checkpoint in Navalady in Alvai, Point-Pedro at 1.15 p.m. Saturday, sources said. Unconfirmed reports said two SLA soldiers were injured in the attack. SLA sources did not confirm any injuries in the explosion. During the indiscriminate firing by the SLA troops following the attack, Sivaraja Jesipan, 13, a school boy walking close to the sentry, was seriously injured, sources said.

SL Police arrests 30 Tamil youths in Puttalam

Two youths shot and killed in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Army soldiers manning the checkpoint at Mutthirai Junction, located on Jaffna - Point Pedro Road near Nallur, stopped two youths who came in a motorbike and shot dead both of them after beating one of them against a wall. The incident took place Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. Civilian sources said that the youths were inebriated after a party, and stopped only at a distance from the checkpoint when the soldiers ordered them to stop. Jaffna Police said that the SLA soldiers had recovered a grenade from the killed youths but witnesses said the youths were unarmed. Meanwhile, two SLA soldiers were wounded in two different grenade attacks in Jaffna Wednesday.

Puthur East villagers demand safety, resettlement

Protesters shouted slogans against the conduct of the members of the SLMM on Friday and urged them to take action to immediately to resettle them.
