2nd Lt.Malathy Brigade completes 12th anniversary

Elangko (I'langkoa), a senior LTTE official as the Head of Tamileelam Police, succeeding B. Nadesan. Mr. Elangko who joined the LTTE in 1983 and received military training in LTTE's 4th training camp in India has earlier served as the deputy of the Police between 1993 and 1996. Later, he was in charge of Policy Dissemination Unit of the LTTE.

Withdraw Indian defence delegation to SL: Thirumavalavan, Vaiko

The Indian Government should revive the stalled peace talks in the island instead of extending defence cooperation to the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL), said Thol. Thirumavalavan, General Secretary of the Tamilnadu-based Viduthalai Chiruthhaika'l Kadchi (VCK, the Liberation Panthers party) during a press meet in Chennai, Monday that was reported in sections of the Indian media. Meanwhile, Vaiko, leader of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) wrote a letter to the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday urging him "to stop forthwith any form of military assistance or guidance to Sri Lanka."

Youth succumbs to injuries, man found dead in Jaffna

The youth shot and injured at New Chemma’ni Veethi in Kalviyangkaasu Thursday succumbed to his injuries at Jaffna Teaching hospital Monday, and a civilian who went missing Wednesday was found dead Monday, with assault injuries on his body near the well of the Heroes’ Resting Home at Ellangku’lam, Uddupiddy in Vadamaraadchi. Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen shot dead an elderly trader in Chaavakachcheari Saturday around 7:30 a.m., sources in Jaffna said.

SL Supreme Court fixes inquiry into petitions challenging the CFA

Sri Lanka's Supreme Court Friday fixed the inquiry for March 10 next year into the petitions filed by the Sinhala extreme nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) and Sinhala Jathika Sangamaya (SJS) challenging the legality of the ceasefire agreement signed by the then Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremasinghe and Velupillai Pirapaharan, the leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on 22 February 2002.

Tamils mark 25-years of Tiger sacrifice

0November 27 Heroes Day remembrance events were being held in Vanni since Sunday amid air attacks and Deep Penetration Unit attacks that have been stepped up by the Sri Lankan forces. Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has deployed soldiers close to the Heroes cemeteries in SLA controlled areas of NorthEast, including the cemeteries that have been desecrated by the Sri Lankan forces in Batticaloa, Ampaa'rai and Trincomalee. From 27 November 1982, when the first LTTE fighter Lt. Sankar died, until 20 November 2007, a total of 19,877 fighters are declared war heroes by the Tamileelam Heroes Secretariat.

SLA shoots dead youth in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops shot and killed a youth going home along Amman Veethi in Nalloor, Jaffna Monday and took away his body in their vehicle, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), and SLA in Mukamaalai and Nakarkoayil Northern Front Defence Lines (FDL), exchanged artillery fire from Monday 4:00 a.m till evening, the sources added.

Tamil mother files FR petition in Supreme Court

A 28-year-old Tamil woman has filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) violation petition in the Sri Lanka's Supreme Court to order her release immediately and compensation of Rs. 500,000 for illegal arrest and detention in Welikada prison. Ganeshanathan Sridevi gave birth to her fourth child in the police station during her detainment. She has cited Borella Police Chief Inspector Kamal Pushpakumara, Inspector General of Police, Defence Secretary, Commissioner General of Prisons and Attorney General as respondents in her petition, legal sources said.

Court directs AG to file indictment against Kilinochchi Official

Sri Lanka's Supreme Court Friday directed the Attorney General to file indictment against the Kilinochchi Regional Assistant Commissioner of Local Government Mr.Kandiah Alvapillai Balasubramaniam who is being detained since his arrest on 26 June under the Emergency Regulations (ER). He was taken into custody by the Borella Police following the alleged recovery of a claymore mine concealed in the diesel tank in his vehicle that brought him from Kilinochchi to Colombo on official duty.

Pirapaharan pays homage to Thileepan on 20th anniversary

Thileepan, LTTE's political wing leader for the Jaffna district, who fasted unto death in a twelve days' campaign putting forward five demands to the Indian government to meet the aspirations of the Tamil people soon after the signing of the Indo-Sri Lankan agreement in 1987.
