Vadamaradchi faces isolation

The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) stopped from yesterday the only passenger van service between Chempiyan Pattu on the southeastern coast of Jaffna and Pt.Pedro. This has cut off the only access the civilians in these area had with the outside world. The army stopped the passenger ('Thatti') van service from Chempiyan Pattu to Chavakachcheri last month.

Navy fire kills 9 fishermen

The nine fishermen who were reported missing early this morning after the Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) attacked a group of fishing boats in the sea off Mullaithivu, between Semmalai and Alampil were all migrant Sinhalese from the island's west coast said one of their colleagues who escaped the midsea carnage and swam ashore this afternoon.

LTTE attack injures five policemen

Five Sri Lankan Policemen, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police, were wounded when the Liberation Tigers fired a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) at the jeep they were travelling in, said Police sources. The attack took place at Omanthai, along the A-9 highway, about 13 km. north of Vavuniya around 6.30 p.m.

SLA patrol ambushed

Five soldiers were killed and three seriously wounded when the Liberation Tigers ambushed a Sri Lankan Army (SLA) foot patrol in Pachchanoor, about 28 kilometers south of Trincomalee and seven kilometers south of Mutur, this morning around 7.30 a.m. Four SLA troops have been reported missing following the attack said Sri Lankan Police sources in Trincomalee.

Security concerns in Colombo

Earlier reports said they were killed in an airstrike.

LTTE radio begins Sinhala service

Tamil Eelam Vaanoli (radio), the commercial service of the Voice of Tigers (VoT), will commence a Sinhala transmission from today, November 25, the radio said. The Transmission will have a news broadcast at 6.30 am and 6.30 p.m., and will be followed by other special programs, the radio added.
