Jaffna SLA calls meeting

The SLA's Jaffna Town commander Brig. Susantha Mendis, summoned yesterday all department heads, (of semi government concerns) bank officials and others in Jaffna town and its suburbs to a meeting at Jaffna Kachcheri on Friday at 9 a.m.. The meeting is believed to have been called to discuss growing LTTE influence into all levels of public life in Jaffna, said sources.

SLA appoints new Vadamaradchi chief

The SLA commander of Jaffna's Vadamaradchi division, Col.Larry Wijeratne is to be transferred out of the area with effect from April 20. Col. Wijeratne has been considered by the SLA as one of its best officers in the Jaffna peninsula. He was praised for keeping the activity of the Liberation Tigers under complete check in Vadamaradchi since 1996.

Skirmish at Olumadu

Accident victim bleeds to death

One civilian was killed and another critically injured when the motorbike in which they were travelling crashed into another belonging to the SLA near Aavarangal on the Jaffna-Pt. Pedro Road around 6.30 p.m. yesterday said sources in Jaffna. The injured were rushed to the Atchuvely hospital and from there to the Jaffna hospital around 11 p.m. last night.

Home guards bound for warfront

Tigers overrun SLA posts in Jaffna

Mine hits SLA tractor

More than two SLA soldiers were killed and several wounded when the tractor in which they were traveling from Maruthankerni to Vettilaikkerni in Vadamaradchi east was hit by a land mine attack carried out by the the Liberation Tigers yesterday around 11.30 a.m. in the morning said LTTE sources in Naagarkovil. They said that the tractor was completely destroyed in the attack.

Fishermen reported missing

Reports from the Vanni said that four fishermen have gone missing in an attack by the Sri Lankan Navy early this morning around 5.45 a.m. on fishing boats in the seas off the Mullaithivu coast. Others who went in search of them later in the morning found only some nets and buoys where the Navy had attacked the fishing boats.
