Sri Lanka Army (SLA) handed over the dead body of a youth to Vavuniya hospital Thursday evening , claiming the youth was killed in a fight between the SLA and the Linberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Wednesday between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m at Nedunkulam area in Kidachoori in Vavuniya when five LTTE cadres entered 50 meters into SLA held area.

SLA trooper seriously injured in claymore attack in Vavuniya

Unidentified persons triggered a claymore device Wednesday around 12:10 p.m, concealed in a rubble heap along the A9 route at Thandikulam in Vavuniya, seriously injuring a Sri Lanka Army (SLA)trooper who was first rushed to Vavuniya hospital and later transferred to Anuradapura hospital for further treatment, Vavuniya police said.

Unidentified persons triggered a claymore device Friday around 7:50 a.m at Asikulam area in Vavniya, seriously injuring 3 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers who were on their way to fetch water from a well close to the Asikulam SLA camp, Vavuniya police said. The injured troopers were rushed to Vavuniya military hospital.

SLA, LTTE clash at Vavuniya FDL

Liberation Tigers clashed with Sri Lanka Army troopers who attempted to move beyond the no-go zone towards Puliyankulam at Omanthai Forward Defence Line in Vavuniya district around 2:00 p.m. Monday. The SLA troopers withdrew after facing resistance from the Tigers, according to LTTE's Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan. Meanwhile, medical sources in Kilinochchi said an ambulance with 7 patients needing advanced treatment at Vavuniya hospital could not proceed to Vavuniya as the Omanthai exit point remained closed following the clash. Artillery and mortar fire was also reported in Northern Front FDL in Muhamalai since Sunday evening.

Police forces, Tigers exchange mortar fire in Murunkan

Sri Lankan police forces exchanged mortar fire for 45 minutes with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam Monday night from 8:00 p.m., 15 km east of Mannar in Murunkan, Police officials said. 6th Mile Post and 17th Mile Post centry posts manned by military trained policemen were attacked by LTTE mortar fire, according to police officials who claimed that they launched mortar fire in retaliation. Civilians who reached Mannar from LTTE controlled areas above Murunkan said around 10 mortar shells hit civilian settlements. No casualties were reported.

Police Officers from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier Friday on suspicion of involvement in the killing of five students of School of Agriculture in Thandikulam, Vavuniya last Saturday and detained him. The soldier, together with the police officer arrested earlier on Wednesday for alleged involvement in the massacre, are to be produced before Vavuniya district judge Mr Manickavasagar, Ilancheliyan on 5 December for an identification parade.

0Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Friday handed over 5 bullet-sprayed dead bodies and an exploded body to Police, claiming that the youths were killed when SLA troopers retaliated to gunfire Thursday night. The sixth youth had killed himself, Friday early morning, detonating a hand grenade, according to the SLA that claimed that the youths were LTTE cadres waiting to penetrate into SLA area. The killings have taken place at Parayanalankulam 30 km west of Vavuniya town along Vauniya Mannar Road.

Police officer detained on killings at Vavuniya Farm school

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers in Vavuniya have arrested and brought before Vavuniya Judge, a police officer Wednesday on alleged suspicion of involvement in the massacre of five Farm School students and indiscriminate fire on students inside the school premises last Saturday. The police officer, attached to a Police post in Thirunavatkulam, 250 meters west of the Farm School, was alleged to have rushed to the school and joined the Sri Lanka Army troopers from a nearby checkpost, when they fired indiscriminately at the students inside the school premises, legal sources in Vavuniya said.
