Wimal Weerawansa, Sri Lanka minister of Housing and Common Amenities, accompanied by the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, visited Jaffna Tuesday morning preceding India’s Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao who was expected in Jaffna Friday evening, sources in Jaffna said. Wimal Weerawansa and the Russian Ambassador returned to Colombo Friday evening after participating in some events in Jaffna peninsula.

Fonseka to be indicted for harboring army deserters

Sarath Fonseka who contested as the common opposition candidate in the presidential election was defeated by the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka's Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) to the United Nation's post in New York, vacant following the recall of previous DPR, Bandula Jayasekera, after an alleged sexual harassment scandal, is reported to be filled by Major General Shavendra Silva, former 58th Division commander, who has been accused of committing war crimes by his former General Sarath Fonseka, Inner City Press reported. Professor Francis Boyle, an expert in International Law, commenting on this reported UN job said, "the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) is trying to sanitize and immunize their genocidaires/war criminals and thus regularize it all."

Sarath Fonseka charged for harboring army deserters

Sri Lanka’s Attorney General Monday filed indictment in the Colombo Chief Magistrate court charging Sarath Fonseka on forty-one counts that include employing deserters of the Sri Lanka Army, paying salaries and providing lodging facilities. Sarath Fonseka, former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army was last week sentenced by the 1st Court Martial being found guilty for the involvement in politics while in service.

DNA parliamentarians released on surety bail

Rajapaksa authorizes Court Martial sentence on Fonseka

Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa Saturday authorized the sentence imposed by the 1st Court Martial on the former Commander of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Sarath Fonseka. The first Court Martial Friday sentenced Sarath Fonseka which strips him of all military ranks, being found him guilty of involvement in political activity while in service. Rajapaksa has now authorized the sentence to be carried out with immediate effect, acting Military spokesman Colonel Duminda Gamage told media.

Fonseka’s lawyers to appeal ‘conviction’

Polls chief wants Supreme Court to scrap Fonseka’s petition

Fonseka to be indicted for military arms purchase fraud
