The occupying Sinhala forces of the Sri Lankan State this year celebrated Buddhist Vesak in a massive scale in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils as never before. The commander of the occupying SL military in Jaffna organised a two day military event in Jaffna. New Delhi's Consul General in Jaffna Mr V Mahalingam and his officials were invited to an event held at the Open Air Theatre in front of the Jaffna Public Library together with SL State employees from the Northern Provincial Council and the University of Jaffna. [TamilNet, Saturday, 17 May 2014, 14:49 GMT]
0Elected Northern Provincial Council (NPC) member Thurairasa Ravikaran from Mullaith-theevu on Saturday paid tribute to thousands of Eezham Tamils who perished facing the genocidal war 5 years ago in Vanni. The occupying Sri Lankan military soldiers were quick to discover the event and warned the TNA councillor not to proceed with the tribute. SL military intelligence operatives rushed to the spot with cameras taking video of the participants at Mul’l’ivaaykkaal West. The SL military officers said they had instructions not to allow any remembrance event to take place. However, Mr Ravikaran proceeded with the event stating that no body could stop him from gifting school children education material marking the remembrance of their kith and kin, who lost their lives in the war.

SL police disrupts elected councillors from conducting Mu'l'livaaykkaal Remembrance

[TamilNet, Friday, 16 May 2014, 17:36 GMT]
0The occupying Sinhala policemen of genocidal Sri Lanka on Friday desecrated a Mu’l’livaaykkaal memorial event in a disgusting manner in front of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Secretariat at Kaithadi, by trampling on the floral tribute and memorial lamps that were lit by the elected Tamil councillors of the NPC. The SL policemen blocked the elected representatives from entering the NPC Secretariat. When the Tamil councillors lit memorial lamps and conducted a floral tribute in remembrance of the people and their fighters, who faced the genocidal onslaught in Vanni 5 years ago, Sinhala policemen desecrated the memorial lamps and the flowers with their boots. However, the elected representatives resolved that they would proceed with Mu’l’ivaaykkaal Remembrance from Friday to Sunday throughout the country of Eezham Tamils.

[TamilNet, Thursday, 15 May 2014, 23:27 GMT]
The outgoing government of the New Delhi Establishment hurriedly coming out with a series of manoeuvrings just before its exit, particularly targeting the affairs of Eezham Tamils, needs a thorough investigation, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island. They were citing the New Delhi government on Wednesday extending the ban on the LTTE and that too for an unusual term of five years; the fishermen talk held on Monday with the ‘supervision’ of the officials of New Delhi and Colombo, directed in such a way to bring in rift between Tamils on either side of the Palk Bay; and New Delhi’s reported compliance in the first week of May with Gotabhaya’s ban list of diaspora Tamil organizations and individuals.

Former ICG chief denies structural genocide of Eezham Tamils

[TamilNet, Saturday, 10 May 2014, 23:43 GMT]
0The current situation in Sri Lanka is not structural genocide and the Tamil diaspora was “pushing too hard” with this terminology, claimed ICG's former President Gareth Evans at a workshop on crises, at the University of Essex, UK on Saturday. Continuing his response to a question raised from the audience on the total failure of the R2P in the island, Gareth Evans was of the opinion that the GoSL “was not behaving well” and that continued “international pressure” was required to make the government more accountable. However, when questioned by TamilNet on the applicability of the third pillar of the R2P to protect the nation of Eezham Tamils in the future from the on-going structural genocide, he was of the opinion that though it is possible that the situation might deteriorate it was “premature to be talking about Responsibility to Protect right now.”

Genocidal Sri Lanka, abettors, appropriate urbanisation of Eezham Tamils

[TamilNet, Friday, 09 May 2014, 19:37 GMT]
For nearly 500 years, the nation of Eezham Tamils has been denied of effective urbanisation of their own, by the successive colonial regimes of the Portuguese, Dutch and the British, who groomed Colombo as the only urban centre to politically and economically control the island. Genocidal Colombo’s Sinhala military and the abettors in New Delhi, Washington and Beijing now take away the Eezham Tamil right to urbanisation by building Sinhala military capitals in the so-called Palaali ‘High Security Zone’ and in Trincomalee. A nation that doesn’t have its own urban centres and control over infrastructure would be easily enslaved, commented an academic in Jaffna.

Tamils resisting demographic genocide at North-East border, stricken by poverty

[TamilNet, Thursday, 08 May 2014, 23:10 GMT]
0The Sri Lankan State is accelerating Sinhala colonization with the aim of permanently wedging the demographic contiguity of the northern and eastern provinces at Kokkuth-thoduvaay, a strategic village situated in Mullaiththeevu district. “Nobody has listened to our repeated pleas for freeing our lands. We went from divisional offices to SL president placing our appeals. We have also done our maximum in mobilising against the demographic genocide,” says civic member K. Sivalokeswaran from Kokkuth-thoduvaay North. Now, the Eezham Tamils, who have resettled in the village are stricken by poverty, similar to what the world has witnessed in Somalia, he says. All the agricultural lands owned by Tamils have been appropriated. The residential areas where Tamils managed to resettle are also being appropriated by Colombo, he says.

Civic member Shageevan urges course-correction of TNA

[TamilNet, Monday, 05 May 2014, 23:51 GMT]
Eezham Tamils have also been consistent in denouncing a 13th Amendment-based discourse in the past. Also, when Oslo sought to push the Tamil question into an internal formula during the CFA times, the Tamil side confronted the move by producing a blueprint for Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA). Now, especially after facing the genocidal onslaught in 2009, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) should have articulated the position of Eezham Tamils by demanding an international investigation on crimes against humanity and genocide at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Why did the TNA parliamentarians fail articulating the Tamil position in an open and transparent manner at the Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva all these years, asked S. Shageevan, the deputy chair of Valikaamam North civic council (Piratheasa Chapai) at a press conference held in Jaffna on Monday.

Uyangoda revisited on Tamil nationhood, self-determination

[TamilNet, Sunday, 04 May 2014, 13:42 GMT]
Prof Jayadeva Uyangoda [Library Photo]In a pioneering and incisive article published 35 years ago in a Colombo-based monthly journal Lanka Guardian, Jayadeva Uyangoda, currently a professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Policy at the University of Colombo, articulated the Tamil Nationhood and corroborated Tamils right to self-determination based on the Marxists-Leninist principle. His article, condemning the Sinhala Left’s failure to grasp the National question in the island is remarkably applicable in the present context of protracted genocide and military occupation, and displays the resilience of Sinhala chauvinism, which is endemic to the Sri Lankan left, opines a Tamil diaspora student of Anthropology, reproducing the article authored by Professor Jayadeva Uyangoda in the Lanka Guardian of 15 March 1979.

Uprooted Champoor Tamils in Trincomalee: ‘Tell the world our story’

[TamilNet, Saturday, 03 May 2014, 23:34 GMT]
The occupying military of genocidal Sri Lanka and its Colombo-centric investment board are jointly opposing the resettlement of Champoor people and even the name of the village has been officially deleted. The area constitutes more than 9,000 acres. But, the SL government has appropriated, through Gazette notifications, only 1,458 acres including the 500 acres that has been demarcated for the construction of a coal power plant. However, the occupying SL Navy is not allowing the people to resettle. The main problem is the policy of genocidal militarisation, the people say. The real problem of Champoor people in Moothoor East in Trincomalee district has not reached the outside world, the uprooted people and their representatives told TamilNet after they marked 9th year of their uprooted life with a prayer for resettlement at Paththirakaa’li-amman temple in Champoor on 26 April 2014.

[TamilNet, Thursday, 01 May 2014, 13:45 GMT]
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) councillors and parliamentarians were summoned to Trincomalee Town Council on Wednesday to discuss two issues, the UN Human Rights Council resolution on Sri Lanka and the so-called South African initiative. In order to defend its approach, a hijacked-nominated-installed section of the TNA was instructing the silent majority of the TNA not to speak anything against the ‘international’ effort by South Africa. In order to make the remaining not to rebel against R Sampanthan, MA Sumanthiran and CV Wigneswaran, a so-called high-level committee of 8 members was floated instructing all the members to toe in line in expressing opinion on internal and external matters by consulting the committee.

Idiotic racism in Colombo University ‘medical research’ published in India

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 30 April 2014, 23:13 GMT]
0“The Sinhalese are probably the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Island, but their origin is also traced to Northern India. However, there is disagreement as to whether they came originally from the North West or North East part of India. The Sri Lankan Tamils are the descendants of Tamils from South India who came to the Island and settled down at various times in the past when Sri Lanka was invaded by South Indian rulers. The Moors are the descendants of Arab traders,” says a ‘medical research’ undertaken by the Department of Pharmacology and by the Department of Human Genetics Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo that is published in the Indian Journal of Human Genetics.

Sinhala military operates US-trained ‘counterinsurgency’ in Jaffna

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 29 April 2014, 22:21 GMT]
0The commander of the genocidal Sri Lankan military in the Jaffna peninsula, Maj. Gen. Udaya Perera, who was trained and awarded in the US Army War College in 2012, after his role as director of SL Army operations in the genocidal onslaught in 2009 followed by counter-insurgency foreign service targeting Tamil diaspora from Malaysia, is deploying new tactics for furthering the structural genocide against Eezham Tamils in his position as the commander of SL military occupying the peninsula. The SL commander has launched a deceptive programme to woo Tamil youth into subservient jobs to SL military by promising good payment through a secret agent known as ‘Tamil CNN Kannan’ who has come from the UK. As the direct campaign to enlist Tamils into the genocidal military has failed, the SL military has chosen to trap Tamil youth through business and media agents.

In the Sinhala rendering it has become Chundukuli. A large number of Tamil place names have already been Sinhalicised or mutilated by the signboards placed by the occupying genocidal military in the country of Eezham Tamils and now Wigneswaran is also contributing to the trend, commented Tamil academic circles in Jaffna. There was a time when Jaffna enjoyed reputation even in Tamil Nadu for flawless use of Tamil.

[TamilNet, Monday, 28 April 2014, 03:40 GMT]
“The self determination and the nationhood of Eelam Tamils, is neither to be debated by Colombo centric individuals nor to be decided in Colombo. It is a right, which resides upon the collective will of the Eelam Tamil people to the North-East,” writes Norway-based Eezham Tamil anthropology academic, Athithan Jayapalan, responding to Colombo’s diplomat Dr. Dayan Jayatilake writing in a Colombo media that “There is no Tamil nation in Sri Lanka, but there is a Tamil minority in Sri Lanka. There is however a Sinhala nation in Sri Lanka. That is the only ethnic community on the island, which can claim the status of a nation as such.”
