Razeek group member shot dead

A member of Razeek group, special Tamil paramilitary unit of the Sri Lankan Army, was shot dead by unidentified armed youth at Aarumuhaththan Kudiyeruppu 9 km north of Batticaloa town yesterday around 8.30 p.m. He is identified as Visvalingam Vijayakumar (19).

Two killed in fire-fight

A soldier of the Razeek group and a person suspected to be a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was killed in a fire-fight with the Liberation Tigers in Batticaloa this morning when an ambush party of the special Tamil paramilitary unit of the Sri Lankan Army surprised a minor supply camp of the LTTE.

Muslim youths urged to join

A letter from the Sri Lankan Police strongly urging Muslim youth to join the Home Guards was read out at Mosques in Valaichenai and Ottamaavadi after the Jummah prayers this afternoon. According to the letter, any Muslim youth who had attended school upto grade five is eligible to become a Home Guard.

The fracas began when two soldiers of the Razeek group, the much dreaded para-military outfit operating with the SLA in Batticaloa, were stopped by the Sri Lankan Police near Shivananda Maha Viththiyaalayam in Kallady for an identity check.
