Resettled Tamils in Moothoor east live in fear

Resettled Tamil families in Moothoor east and Tamil villages in Serunuwara division in Trincomalee district are living in terror following the killings of three Tamil farmers of Paarathipuram, Thangkanakar and Poonakar. Tamil civilians in this area fear that these killings had taken place in revenge of the killing of Sinhala farmers in Serunuwara by some unidentified men last week, sources in Moothoor said.

Fifty-four year old S.M.Jamal was abducted by armed gang arrived in white van from his residence in Munthal. Twenty four year old Farook Shan was abducted by army clad men in a white van from his shop at Kadayamootai.

SLTB bus burnt down in Batticaloa

A gang of unidentified men in military uniform burnt down a Sri Lanka Transport Board bus after ordering out the 50 passengers, conductor and the driver Thursday around 2:00 a.m at Aalangku’lam junction in Vaazhzichcheanai police division in Batticaloa district, sources in Batticaloa said. This act of arson may have been carried out as an attempt to create rifts between the Tamil, Muslim communities by some political forces, following the bomb blast in Akuressa in the Southern Province Tuesday, residents of Batticaloa said.

Those who continue to justify and abet the on going war against Tamils and those who directly or indirectly advocate surrender of Tamil civilians to their adversaries are a party to war crimes, he further said.

Street, Ea’raavoor in Batticaloa district, shot and killed him as he was returning home in a three-wheeler, Ea’raavoor police said. The victim is a director of a telecommunication centre in Ea’raavoor as well as an agent involved in sending persons abroad for employment, sources Ea’raavoor said.

Violence against upcountry Tamils

A gang of about fifteen Sinhalese armed persons entered the house of a Tamil family in Perk rubber estate in Horana electorate Sunday evening and attacked the inmates mercilessly with clubs and knives. Other Tamil families in the area along with the affected family fled into the nearby jungle to escape further attack from the Sinhalese hoodlums. The violence comes as reports in Colombo said an upcountry Tamil minister in the Mahinda Rajapaksa government, Mr. P. Chandrasekaran was currently under presidential investigation for alleged expression of support to the recent protest campaign lauched by the Tamil Nadu government that sought to protect Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Unidentified armed men in a white van abducted Saturday morning a Tamil youth, K.Ganehsamoorthy, a fisherman by profession. The gang first went to the victim's house in Tha'lavaay in E'raavur police division, and then to the Tha'lavaay sea shore when being told he had gone for fishing, and took him by force in their vehicle, around 11:00 a.m., according to complaints lodged in the E'raavoor Police station by his relatives. Meanwhile, two Tamil youths were reported missing in Aaraiyampathi i Kaaththaankudi police division.

JVP parliamentarian arrested, UNP provincial councilor remanded

Sri Lanka Police Saturday evening arrested Premasiri Manage, parliamentarian of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) at Rambukkana in the south with two others in connection with the assault on a government supporter on August 18. He and other two are being detained in the police station and being interrogated, police sources said.
