Batticaloa residents express happiness over end of tensions

The residents of the Batticaloa-Amparai district have expressed happiness over the end of the tensions caused by the renegade Karuna group in the region. The people are celebrating the Tamil New Year with relief, sources in Batticaloa said.

Special poojas for the New Year are being conducted in all temples in the region. In the Batticaloa town, a large number of people could be seen attending poojas at the Amirthagali Sri Mamangeswar temple, Anaipanthy Sri Sithivinayagar temple, Koddaimunai Veeragathy Pillaiyar temple and the Puthunagar Sri Sithivigneswarar temple, the sources said.
