Kattankudy police arrests man with weapons

The Kattankudy Police Friday arrested Mr. Nagoor Faisool Ameen with a pistol and an AK 47 gun. The Batticaloa acting Magistrate, Mr.S.Sinniah, ordered remand for the suspect till May 20th when he was produced in court Friday, legal sources in the eastern town said.

On a tip off the police searched the shop of the suspect in Kattankudy and recovered the weapons and arrested the suspect, sources said.

A few weeks ago a youth was arrested by the Police with weapons at Mavadivembu, police said.

The police believe that the 'Karuna' group, which split from the Liberation Tigers, had sold their weapons at low prices to the residents of the area before fleeing. According to sources, some persons are engaged in selling weapons left over by the Karuna group in the Kattankudy and Eravur areas.
