Police compound fishermen's woes in Vankalai

Vanni Parliamentarian S.Noharathalingam has requested Mannar Deputy Inspector General of Police M.P.Baddewela to make arrangements to provide safe areas in the high ground for Mannar fishermen in Vankalai region to park their boats, sources said.

During the recent torrential rain and high winds, many fishermen lost their boats as rising sea waters washed off the boats from their low lying parking areas.

Mannar Police has constructed sentry points and observation posts along the coast on highground, and large areas have been closed off with security fences.

Police authorities have refused permission for fishermen to park their boats near the security fences according to Mannar fishermen.
