Failure to Gazette delays establishment of East Medical Faculty

Although the United National Front Government (UNF) authorized establishment of a Medical Faculty for the Eastern Campus, the absence of Gazette notification has delayed even starting the construction of the buildings for the new faculty, said educational sources in Batticaloa.

UNF cabinet gave the approval for the new facility on 18th of March. But the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) which took power after the 2nd April elections is delaying gazetting the approval causing concern among the education officials and the teaching staff at the Campus, sources said.

The education officials further said that Batticaloa Teaching Hospital has to be equipped with additional facilities to support the medical faculty and that arrangements for such improvements also have not been taken yet.
