Disabled girl strangled and killed in Vavuniya

A 15-year-old girl from the Thalikulam settlement in Vavuniya, who went out to shepherd her goat at about 3:30 pm on Wednesday, was found strangled and dead, sources in Vavuniya said.

The mother of the girl had gone out searching for her when she did not return, and found her dead body. The girl, Kirubaharan Jenita, had a speech-impairment and could not speak. The public suspect that before being strangled, the girl might have been assaulted sexually.

On being informed about the incident, Mr. Sivanathan Kishore, the Vanni district MP, rushed to the spot and made arrangements for a police investigation. Investigations are conitnuing, sources said.
