Missing person found murdered in Jaffna

The body of a man reported missing since Monday was found in a deserted spot in Nayanmaarkaddu on the eastern outskirts of Jaffna town Tuesday morning, Police said. The man, identified as Mr. Navaratnarajah Premkumar, 25, of Kattapirai in Kalviankaadu near Jaffna town, was hacked to death, according to Police. Premkumar was arrested and detained for many months by the Sri Lanka army in 1996, relatives said. One of his brothers is a member of the Liberation Tigers, according to them.

Mr. Premkumar was working as a shop assistant in Jaffna town and was involved in the sale of sand in the construction industry, relatives said.

The motorbike on which he left home last evening is missing, according to Police. Sri Lanka army and Police cordorned of Kanakaratnam Street in Nayanmaarkaddu where the body was found.
