Kurunagala Sinhala delegation visits Jaffna
[TamilNet, Tuesday, 21 September 2004, 16:28 GMT]
Forty-nine member delegation of Deva Sarana Centre, a Sinhala organization with its headquarters in Kurunagala district in the northwestern
province, visited Jaffna Tuesday and held discussion with the
representatives of Jaffna Non-Governmental Organizations' Consortium (JNOC)
and Jaffna university students, civil sources in Jaffna said.
The delegation is to visit Wednesday
welfare centres where several hundred internally displaced people are
given shelter and will hold discussion with representatives of fisheries
societies. JNOC Chairman Mr.V.Sri Sakthivel told the visiting Deva Sarana Centre
delegation at the consortium office located in Nallur that
Sinhala media in the south has been giving, twisted and distorted versions
of the Interim Self Governing Authority proposal of the Liberation Tigers
of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) signed by the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) thus creating confusion
in the minds of the people in the south. Mr.Sri Sakthivel added ''the government should first commence peace talks
with the LTTE on the ISGA proposal. This is our firm stand. LTTE is also
insisting on this. However politicians in the south are engaged in
sabotaging the commencement of the peace talks with the LTTE through false
and mischievous propaganda.'' JNOC has no political background and it is an independent organization
looking after the welfare of people, said Mr.Sri Sakthivel. He told the visitors that if another war breaks out all communities in Sri Lanka, irrespective of their language and religion, would be badly affected.
