Reconstruction of school inside HSZ begins

Foundation stone was laid for the Swiss Government financed construction of war destroyed class rooms of the Eluthumadduval North Government Tamil school located inside the high security zone in Thenmaradchchi division, Jaffna district Friday. The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) gave permission to the Principal, school teachers and students to attend the ceremony, education sources said.

Officials of Swiss Development Organization, Education Department officials and SLA also participated in the event.

Inspite of SLA granting permission for the event to take place and several of soldiers attending the event, education sources said that the SLA has not officially intimated its decision to allow reconstruction of the school.

Sri Lanka Army occupied Eluthumadduval village following military operations in 2000 and the classrooms of the schools were used as army camp. Since 2000, the school has been functioning temporarily in Mirusuvil village, education sources said.
