SLA corporal commits suicide in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) corporal, Mr.Ajantha Bandara, 21, committed suicide by shooting himself with a T-56 gun Monday night around 8.30 p.m. in a sentry point which is located in Colombagam within the municipal limits of Jaffna town, police said.

Fellow soldiers rushed to the sentry point on hearing gunshots and found the victim lying on the floor with a T-56 pistol under one of his legs, police said after the preliminary investigation into the incident.

Ms Srinithi Nanthasekaran, Jaffna Additional Magistrate held the magisterial inquest into the death and ordered the Jaffna Police to send the body to Colombo for post-mortem examination and to submit the report to court later, legal sources said.
