Policeman shot dead in Kalmunai

A Police constable was killed and another wounded when a group of unidentified men open fire on them around 4.15 Wednesday morning in Kalmunai, 40 kiometres south of Batticaloa. The two Policemen were guarding a store in Kalmunaikudi, a densely populated Muslim suburb, when a group of eght armed men attacked them, Police said. The assailants went off with the Policemen's T- 56 assault rifles.

The dead Policeman was identified as Mr. A. D. N Lalith.

His colleague is seriously wounded, according to Kalmunai Police.
