Uppukulam meeting violates Election Law

An election rally in support of Prime Minister Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse, presidential candidate of the UPFA, was held in Uppukulam in Mannar district Tuesday afternoon in contravention of the Election Law. Laws stipulate that electioneering should close on Monday midnight. General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has filed a complaint with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mannar sources said.

Mr.Rishard Badiudin, Vanni District Development and Rehabilitation Minister and a dissident parliamentarian of the SLMC participated in the election meeting.

However police personnel who went to the site removed the posters of Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse and party flag, Mannar sources said.
