Fonseka visits Jaffna, daughters arrive for sightseeing tour

Sri Lanka’s Army commander, Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka arrived at the Palaly airport Friday morning, was taken to Jaffna Thuraiyappah stadium in a Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) helicopter and proceeded to meet the commanders at the 51-2 Brigade Head Quarters in Jaffna amid high security, sources in Jaffna said.
Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and police were stationed in all main roads leading to Jaffna town and security was in high alert throughout the whole day, sources said.
Sources said that the Army Commander is spending the night at the Palaly Military base.
Meanwhile, sources said that two daughters of Lt Gen Fonseka also arrived at the Palaly airport in another special flight the same dayfor a sightseeing tour of Jaffna district. Northern Region Sri Lanka Military Commander, Maj. Gen. Chandrasiri, received the two daughters at the airport. Political sources in Jaffna expressed surprise at the Maj Gen Chandrasiri's presence at the airport to receive family members of his superior.
