SLMM closes Vavuniya office[TamilNet, Friday, 23 February 2007, 12:10 GMT]Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) has closed its offices in Vairavarpuliyankulam in Vavuniya Thursday, and has recalled the employees at the Vavuniya office to outstations citing security reasons, sources in Vavuniya said. Additional information on SLMM's sudden action is not available. Meanwhile, Vavuniya Police said that they were not informed of SLMM's decision to close the office. Police sources added that the SLMM temporarily closed their offices two months earlier also, but returned after a few days. Sources in Vavuniya said that representatives of a few other International non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) also have moved out of Vavuniya district Vavuniya Police said they were not aware of any exodus of INGO staffers from Vavuniya district.
