One STF trooper, one youth shot dead in Kalmunai

Two unidentified armed youths riding on a motor cycle opened fire on Karaithivu Special Task force (STF) road patrol unit, killing a STF trooper, Tuesday around 4:10 p.m in Kalmunai town in Amparai district. The STF troopers chased the youths trying to escape and shot dead one of them within a short distance, said Kalmunai police.

Kalmunai police claimed that the youths were Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam cadres and that the STF had recovered a pistol from the killed youth.

The two bodies are kept at Kalmunai hospital.

Kalmunai is located 32 km south of Batticaloa town.
