Labourer shot dead in Eravur

Unidentified armed men took away a labourer from his house Tuesday around 9:05 p.m for interrogation and shot him dead at Parathipuram in Aiyankerny, a village in Eravur police division in Batticaloa district, sources in Eravur said. He succumbed to his wounds while being rushed to Eravur hospital.

The victim was identified as Kanapathipillai Suresh, 21, a resident of Parathipuram, Aiyankerny. He worked as a labourer in rice grinding mill in Kalmunai.

Suresh was sleeping at his house when the killers called him out for interrogation and shot him dead in front of the house, the sources added.

His body is kept at Eravur hospital for inquest into death to be held.

Eravur police continue investigations.

Aiyankerny is located 16 km northeast of Batticaloa town.
