University Senate discusses crisis in Jaffna Campus[TamilNet, Friday, 18 May 2007, 23:14 GMT]The Jaffna University Senate held a special meeting presided by Acting Vice-chancellor Prof. K. Kumaravadivel Friday to discuss matters related to the reopening of the university amid death notices issued to Jaffna University staff and students allegedly by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers and the recent student abductions, sources close to University administration said. Jaffna Government Agent K. Ganesh participated in the meeting. The JUS discussed ways of improving student security, and steps to open the campus again. However, no official reports have been issued concerning this special meeting. A University Students' Union meeting to discuss further measures to improve student security, scheduled for Friday was postponed due to increasing number of threats to undergraduates, student union representatives said.
