Search operation follows discovery of claymore mine in Wellawatte

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and Police Wednesday morning launched a cordon and search operation in Wellawatte area in Colombo following the discovery of a claymore mine hidden near the Wellawatte railway station around 6.45 a.m., police sources said.

Railway Authority immediately suspended all coastal train services to and from Colombo-Fort to the down south till the search operation was over.

Bomb disposal squad of the Sri Lanka Army rushed to the site and diffused the mine, sources said.

Train services on the coastal line resumed later, sources said.
