26 Akkaraayan poor students receive free bicycles

Twenty six selected students, 16 girls and 10 boys, from Akkaraayan Maha Viththiyaalayam received free bicycles sponsored by the local Akkaraayan Development Organization and the Zoa Foundation, an NGO, to facilitate children from economically deprived families to improve attendence to middle and high schools, sources in Ki'linochchi said.

Students were selected from villages of Ka'n'nakipuram and Akkaraayan East which llie more than 5 km from the school.

Co-ordinator for Akkaraayan Development Organization, Mr P Sivasamy presided the event.

School principal Ms Meenalogini and other representatives of the two organizations sponsoring the event gave away the bicycles to the students.
