Sri Lanka Parliament area to be declared HSZ

The area surrounding the Sri Lanka Parliamentary complex located in Sri Jayawardanapura is to be gazetted as high security zone (HSZ) due to heightened threats of attacks, parliamentary sources in Colombo said. A report that would facilitate the process is to be submitted to the Speaker Mr.W.J.M.Lokkubandara.

Security personnel are already deployed to demarcate the area, which comes under the HSZ.

Markings are being made around the area ahead of the gazette notification, according to parliamentary sources.

Demarcated area would include the Speaker's official residence, the parliamentary complex and MPs' quarters at Kaduwela, media sources said.
