24 Civilians arrested by Vavuniyaa police

24 civilians were taken into custody by Vavuniyaa police Tuesday afternoon and were interrogated, sources in Vavuniyaa said. Imposition of intensified security measures triggered the Police action, according to informed sources.

The arrested persons will undergo further interrogation, and except those suspected of involvement in unlawful activities, the others will be released, police officials said.

Meanwhile, of the 92 civilians arrested Monday afternoon in Vavuniyaa town, Mannaar road Thaalikgu’lam area, all except two were released Vavuniyaa police said.

Tension prevails in the area, local residents said.
