In Puttalam district place names, Taḷuva and Daḷuva seems to be Sinhalicised forms of Tāḻvu. Tāḻvu as low-lying land: "…தாழ்வே…பள்ளம்" (திவாகரம், 5: 221) "…Tāḻvē…paḷḷam" (Tivākaram, 5: 221) Tāḻvu means Paḷḷam "…பள்ளம்…தாழ் நிலமே" (பிங்கலம், 4: 41) "…Paḷḷam…tāḻ nilamē" (Piṅkalam, 4: 41) Paḷḷam means Tāḻ-nilam Tāḻvu as residence or abode: "தன் குடங்கை நீர் ஏற்றான் தாழ்வு" (பேயாழ்வார், 62) "Taṉ kuṭaṅkai nīr ēṟṟāṉ tāḻvu" (Pēyāḻvār, 62) The abode or residence of Viṣṇu (who as Vāmaṉa had received grant-water in his cupped palm) Nīr-noccit-tāḻvu is a locality in Ariyālai in Nallur division of Jaffna district (K.
