SL forces prepare for Heroes Week

Colombo and its suburbs are placed on security alert following Sri Lankan army and police intelligence indicated that the LTTE might step up military operations during the Maaveerar week which begins on Friday, 21st November.

Extra security measures have been adopted in the capital and security forces have been placed on full alert in view of approaching Maaveerar (Heroes) week.

Security has also been increased in major cities in the Tamil areas in the North and East of the island that are under the control of Sri Lankan troops.

The LTTE honours its war dead each year during Maaveerar or Heroes week, which always concludes on 27 November, the anniversary of its first casualty in combat. Lt Shankar was killed on 27 November 1982.
