Chinese special envoy visits Sri Lanka

The Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, Sang Guowei is in Sri Lanka to participate in the swearing–in-ceremony of Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the second term of office, as the special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao. Sang Guowei participated in the inaugural event of the new harbour in Magampura in Hambantota Thursday.

The visiting Chinese special envoy said that the Magampura Port is a new symbol of friendship between Sri Lanka and China and that it was possible because of the personal commitment and attention by leaders of both countries, speaking at the inauguration.

“Sri Lanka and China are friendly neighbors though we are geographically located far from each other. Our hearts beat in unison. Past leaders in Sri Lanka and China have laid a firm foundation for a solid friendship between our countries,” Sang Guowei said.

“Let’s work together to carry our friendship from generation to generation,” he further said.
