Thangathurai accused charged

The Kalutara prison authorities have been informed by the Eastern High Court to produce the accused in the Thangathurai Murder Case, on October 18, at its Trincomalee sessions which commenced today.

The Attorney General has indicted seven accused in the murder of Arunasalam Thangathurai, former TULF member of parliament of the Trincomalee district and five other persons on July 5, 1997.

The names of the seven accused are: Navaneethan Jeevakumar alias Jeyanth, Manikkam Muruganandam alias Jerome, Muttiah Koneswaran alias Bapu, Satkunanathan Nijanthan alias Nijan, Sivaprakasam Akilarupan alias Ahilson, Ratnam Yogambal, and Karthigesu Yogaranee.

The seven accused have been indicted with six charges- three under the Emergency Regulations (ER) and the rest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
