Dissnayake is General Secretary of SLFP

Mr.S.B.Dissanayake, Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Samurdhi has been elected new General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the major constituent political group of the ruling People's Alliance.

He was elected to this post at the party's central working committee meeting chaired by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge at Temple Trees Thursday morning.

Ministers Mahinda Wijesekara, Deputy Minister Wisva Warnapala and Parliamentarian Wijemuni de Soyza were elected Deputy General Secretaries. Mr.Maithiripala Sirisena has been elected one of the Deputy Presidents of the Party.

84 year-old Mrs Srimavo Bandaranaike who resigned from the Prime Ministership last week due to ill-health, will continue as the leader of the party.

Her daughter, President Chandrika Kumaratunge will continue as the Deputy Leader of the party.
